The question is if he will and what he would do.
There are two angles to this rumor, one spacious and one specific. The specific angle is that Luke Skywalker will bring alongside a Star Destroyer in the bordering film. The director has apparently been tasked when course-correcting the Star Wars Saga, and for many Star Wars fans, even those who liked The Last Jedi, we were expecting to look more out of Luke in this sequel trilogy. Giving us a badass Luke might be one pretentiousness J.J. Abrams tries to repair Star Wars.
