Shazam! Made More Money Than Aquaman In Preview Screenings

My man Aquaman has the highest-grossing DC film of all time. Shazam! is not expected to top it, or even come close, to be honest. But Zachary Levi's film is already defying expectations, with a preview screening pulling in bigger bucks than the DCEU's reigning king -- among other movies.

Shazam! played in 1,200 Fandango preview screenings Saturday night, making $3.3 million. That topped Aquaman's Atom/Amazon preview take of $2.9 million, and also the previews for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ($2.6 million), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ($1.8 million), and Hotel Transylvania ($1.3 million).

Those figures are per Deadline, which noted that Shazam!'s preview box office take was spread pretty evenly throughout North America. Of course, that doesn't mean the movie will have a huge opening weekend at the domestic North American box office, or charm the international box office in the way that really boosted Aquaman over the top. But it's a promising start for a movie that's easy to root for.

Zachary Levi -- aka the kid-in-an-adult-superhero's body himself -- was on hand for one of Shazam!'s advance screenings. He thanked the fans, who were surely surprised and thrilled to see him:

The review embargo for Shazam! lifted last night, with critics flooding the internet with lengthy opinions. Most of the reviews have been very positive, and Shazam! currently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 93% from 46 reviews.

Shazam! is apparently tracking for an opening weekend somewhere around $40-$50 million. But lately every top film has overperformed -- from Captain Marvel making more than expected in her opening weekend, to Jordan Peele's Us nearly doubling the predictions for his film.

Aquaman actually had a relatively slow start at the domestic box office, with the lowest opening of the DCEU. But it definitely made up for it over time, especially with help from the foreign box office, and the movie currently has a worldwide gross of $1,146,648,294. That's the best of the current DCEU, and also the best for any DC Comics movie.

So right now many lucky critics and fans have already seen Shazam! but the rest of us will have to wait another couple of weeks. The movie officially opens in theaters on Friday, April 5. Shazam! will show up right after Dumbo, about a month after Captain Marvel, and only a few weeks before Marvel's Avengers: Endgame. Would Jeff Goldblum Return For Jurassic World 3? Here's What He Says

This weekend is very exciting for the generations of Jurassic Park fans out there. Because after waiting years since the release of Jurassic World, its highly anticipated sequel has finally arrived in theaters. Fallen Kingdom will continue the narrative of the current trilogy, bringing back heroes Owen and Claire for another adventure. But there's also a very familiar face returning to the franchise, as Jeff Goldblum is reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. While he's reportedly not a huge part of the movie, fans are already eager to see if Goldblum might also return for the third film. The legendary actor was recently asked just that, and expressed his interest is working with Colin Trevorrow, saying:

Who knows? I'm curious about it. If nothing else happened, I'd be entirely satisfied and nourished and lucky and thrilled to have done all of this. If I can be of any service, that's my posture and authentic feeling. I've kind of nosed around, 'cause I've had such a great time, and he's so good. We did that Jeep commercial, he directed that. He's awful good. I'd like to work with him more on anything. I can imagine, but it's up to them. Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael, who I think is writing the script with him.

While far from a confirmation, it looks like Jeff Goldblum is more than happy to play Ian Malcom in a fourth movie, and therefore help complete the story of the Jurassic World trilogy. The question is whether or not the character is necessary for the story currently being developed by Colin Trevorrow.

In his comments to Collider, Jeff Godlblum mentions his interest in working with Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. While he helped to create this new trilogy, Trevorrow stepped away from the franchise for Fallen Kingdom. This made way for director J.A. Bayona to helm the project, although Trevorrow's departure from Episode IX allowed for him to return for the developing Jurassic World threequel.

Aside from a Jeep Commercial, Jeff Goldblum's Ian Malcolm will return to the silver screen in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This will be the first time Ian has been in the franchise since The Lost World in 1997. While he was referenced in the past two movies, fans are excited to see the iconically shirtless hero come back properly. Malcolm will be testifying in related to genetic testing and events he witnessed on Jurassic Park, which will likely keep him far away from the main action of the film. Still, we can hold out hope he at least drives a Jeep.

When Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald arrives in theaters later this month, it will have the eyes of millions of fans of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. The franchise seeks to build upon a legendary history that young Harry Potter and his Hogwarts classmates could only read about and imagine. A past that will led up to the famed duel between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.

In Dumbledore's most esteemed moment, he gained the allegiance of the Elder Wand, one of the three Dealthy Hallows and the most powerful wands to have ever existed. When we meet Jude Law's young Dumbledore in Crimes of Grindelwald, he is not yet in possession of the Elder Wand. However, Eddie Redmayne revealed in an interview with Sirius XM, that Law's wand originally looked as such. J.K. Rowling caught notice of this detail while looking at some raw footage and some movie magic resulted. In Redmayne's words:

They then had to CGI out that wand for quite a substantial amount of the film. It was replaced with, I think, actually the most beautiful wand of all. It's very... sculptural.

Early images of young Dumbledore's wand are rather exquisite to match the elegance and stature of the Hogwarts professor. It's a dark wood root with a stone on one end separated by a gold rim. The Elder Wand, on the other hand, (Gellert Grindelwald's hand, to be precise), is 15 inches long, made of elder wood and has a threstral tail-core, which is described on J.K. Rowling's official site as a "tricky substance only wizards that mastered death can control."

It's all in the details and it's understandable how some confusion might arise if Jude Law's wand looked too much like the notorious wand. Crimes of Grindelwald only marks the second of five planned Fantastic Beasts movies, and the duel is still quite some time away. The upcoming film is set in 1927, just a few months after the events of the first movie, and Albus Dumbledore doesn't obtain the allegiance of the Elder Wand in his duel with Grindelwald until 1945.

In Crimes of Grindelwald, the film will follow Johnny Depp, who was revealed as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: Where to Find Them, as he gathers followers for his dark agenda to raise up pure-blood wizards to rule over Muggles. Eddie Redmayne will return as Newt and reunite with his mentor at Hogwarts, Dumbledore, who enlists him to help stand in the way of the dark wizard's plans.

Jude Law's involvement in the Fantastic Beasts franchise is also highly notable from the Harry Potter films. While much of the cast said they had to go to "wand school," Law did not, maybe because he didn't need it? His fellow cast describes their co-star as a "painter" with the wand, each of them having their own style with their wand flicks along with wand looks to go personally with their characters. Fans can take a closer look at young Dumbledore's wand in Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald which hits theaters on November 16.
