The Cool Fight Scene That Had To Be Cut From Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

Successful blockbuster action flicks are often the result of a miraculous balancing act. With Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the filmmakers were tasked with showing off the legendary Kaiju in a refreshingly terrifying light and bringing in King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan for him to clash with. Oh, not to mention the ensemble of humans to bounce between as well.

By the looks of early reactions to King of the Monsters, the new Godzilla manages to offer up an exciting new entry to the long-running mythos. However, not everything originally in the script will make it to the big screen this weekend. During CinemaBlends exclusive interview with Millie Bobby Brown, the young actress revealed one cut scene she was sad to see not make the theatrical release. In her words:

Oh yeah. There was this full fight montage that I had done. It was a fighting, full-on MMA on this guy, this man-guy. [It was] cool. They cut it! So bummed out about it. By the way, I never got to see it, but I would have loved to see it, too. And Im sure everybody else would.

This is a bummer! It would have been a treat to see the 15-year-old Stranger Things star show off some badass MMA skills in the Godzilla movie. The actress likely had to go through some intense training in order to pull off a scene that may never see the light of day.

Heres hoping the bonus features allows Millie Bobby Brown and fans to see her take on this man-guy she speaks of. Movies such as this one have big scenes cut all the time. Her big fight sequence was likely taken out to make room for more action between Godzilla and the titans he goes up against.

The lost scene does have us thinking about who exactly Millie Bobby Browns Madison Russell is. What 15-year-old knows MMA? As far as we know, her character is the daughter of Vera Farmigas Dr. Emma Russell, who is a paleobiologist involved in research on Kaiju creatures and Kyle Chandlers Dr. Mark Russell, a former Anthrozoologist. Perhaps this is her particular family talent?

The films script may have originally developed Madisons character further by showing off her MMA skills but there wasnt enough room in the film to fit everything. Brown is also among an ensemble including Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, OShea Jackson and Thomas Middleditch. So, there were a ton of performances to fit in.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows the events of 2014s reboot as the mighty Godzilla must face-off against three ancient super-species in order to restore balance on Earth and reign at the king of the monsters. The movie hits theaters this Friday, May 31.

Why Clint Eastwood Prefers Directing Over Acting Nowadays

There are few living Hollywood legends as accomplished as Clint Eastwood. He first lit up the big screen as a wandering gunfighter in the spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars in 1964, and since he hasn't traveled far from the spotlight. At 88-years-old, Eastwood is just as much of an established director as he is an iconic star, with his next project being The Mule, a crime drama he both directed and stars in.

CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell recently sat down with Clint Eastwood for an exclusive interview ahead of the release of The Mule. When asked whether he preferred acting or directing, Eastwood had some fair reasons why he still pursues each but leans more toward directing these days. In his words:

To doing both jobs, I've done it so many times that I never put the difference in. Directing a film is the same... it's a little more leisurely that way. You don't have to suit up. People aren't coming in and combing your hair or whatever. It's a little more leisurely, but different. But they both have an adventure. It's a new adventure. It's a new story. It has new obstacles. So that's what keeps it exciting.

Clint Eastwood sounds passionate as ever about the work he does, but realizes that sitting back in a baseball cap and calling the shots doesn't requires eyes on how he looks in the scene and so on. The actor/director looks to still find passion in both facets of filmmaking, especially considering he's doubling up as the star and man behind the camera in his upcoming film, The Mule.

Clint Eastwood has been busy at work directing film after film at quite the impressive rate, including both Jersey Boys and American Sniper in 2014, 2016's Sully and The 15:17 to Paris earlier this year. However, he hasn't been seen onscreen since 2012's Trouble with the Curve. It makes sense that Eastwood would want to sit back and focus on his directing craft in his later years, and leaving the onscreen glitz and glam to other actors. Then again, he has never waited too long before coming back to his roots in acting.

In The Mule, Eastwood will be playing a 90-year-old horticulturalist and war veteran who becomes a drug mule for the Mexican cartel. The story is based on a true story of a similar man detailed in a New York Times story published in 2014. The film looks to be an emotional role for Eastwood, as his character Earl Stone is filled with regret and sadness around his actions as he becomes in over his head as an FBI agent, played by Bradley Cooper catches wind of his dealings.

Clint Eastwood's comeback as both lead and director, past seen in Gran Torino and Million Dollar Baby, The Mule comes to theaters on December 14.

If there is one set of comic book characters who have never gotten their due on screen, it's the Fantastic Four, with its movies ranging from bad to worse so far. But fans haven't given up on Marvel's First Family, and as the cinematic portrayals of the Hulk, Spider-Man and the Punisher have shown, if you keep plugging away at characters and trying new things, eventually you can get it right. A big part of getting the Fantastic Four right is casting, and recently fans have been calling for real life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt to take on Reed Richards and Sue Storm, respectively. For Krasinski, who is directing and starring with his wife in this week's A Quiet Place, he certainly sounds open to the possibility, saying:

Oh yeah, the Fantastic Four. I would love that! I mean listen, I'm still getting into the whole superhero thing. I didn't read comics as a kid, not as many, I read some but not as much, but I'm a huge superhero fan so yeah, I'd love to do something like that. If there are any left, a lot of these have been taken but the ones that are left, yeah, I would love to do something like that. And listen, I'd love to work with her again so any chance I got would be great.

John Krasinski may not be a huge comic fan, but speaking with Screen Rant, he appears to be interested in taking on the role. Lest he worry, there are still plenty of superhero roles that haven't shown up on the big screen, but few may be more perfect than the Reed Richards idea. I didn't know I wanted this until now but I'm sold. This isn't a case of fans forcing casting because two actors are married either. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are both fun and exciting choices to play Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman. John Krasinski was once up for the role of Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, and Emily Blunt turned down the role of Black Widow in the MCU. Perhaps that was for the best because these two feel ideally suited to Mr. & Mrs. Fantastic.

The man who became known for playing Jim on The Office has branched out in major ways since that show, showcasing his talent in front of and behind the camera. He is even playing an action hero in the upcoming Amazon original series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. He's a really compelling choice for Reed Richards, who is one of the pillars of the Marvel Comics universe. I think he is well suited for Mr. Fantastic's nerdiness, as well as his leadership qualities, and given the rave reviews his film A Quiet Place is receving, he may even be a great choice to direct the Fantastic Four's return to the big screen. As for Emily Blunt, the actress has a serious onscreen presence, and she can be a true badass, as she's shown in Edge of Tomorrow. Sue Storm is both a powerful hero and a caring matriarch, and Emily Blunt could convey both aspects of the character.

While this is all speculation at this point, there are plenty of reasons to think we may be seeing Marvel's First Family back on the big screen sooner rather than later. It was just announced that a new Fantastic Four comic book series is coming from Marvel in August, the first since 2015. That makes me think that the game is afoot, and should the Disney purchase of 20th Century Fox go through, the Fantastic Four may be quickly brought into the MCU fold. Unlike the X-Men, the Fantastic Four could be easily integrated into the MCU without setting up some massive history of mutant civil rights. The MCU's Phase 4 just seems appropriate for the triumphant return of the Fantastic Four and a chance at finally getting them right, and bringing John Krasinski and Emily Blunt on board to star would be a solid start.
