New Aquaman Trailer Plunges Jason Momoa Into Some Epic Action

We are weeks away from taking the plunge with Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and the Atlanteans of James Wan's Aquaman. The DC superhero, last seen in Justice League, showed off an action-packed trailer to the Comic-Con crowd back in July, but Warner Bros. has saved one last look at the December blockbuster, and we have it for you now, below:

James Wan has established, in earlier conversations, that Aquaman will explore both the human side of Arthur, as well as the lure that's bringing him back to the throne of Atlantis. And this new trailer certainly places its focus on those two aspects, with plenty of underwater action, and the split that's driven between Aquaman's two worlds.

This is a massive look at the final movie, clocking in at nearly 6 minutes of footage that covers the full sweep of James Wan's movie. And it does an outstanding job of exploring the different realms that will be important to Aquaman's journey... and not all of them are underwater (as you can see by the desert scenes that really do harken back to Raiders of the Lost Ark, as Wan has been teasing).

But the bulk of the footage does plunge audiences below the surface of the water, where Arthur Curry begins his movie as an outcast who has rejected his heritage, but slowly evolves into the warrior king.

The ultimate selling point, though? The first official shot of Aquaman in his proper orange and green armor!

Aquaman continues the adventures of the DCEU, but indicates the direction that Warner Bros' universe will head, with standalone movies for its various heroes that don't try to foce connections, a la the MCU. Wonder Woman 1984 and Shazam! plan to operate on their own playing fields, while Aquaman will avoid cameos and crossovers, and just give Jason Momoa the chance to expand this corner of the universe.

Like what you see out of the action in this extended tease? Then start getting excited for Aquaman, which will be in theaters on December 21. Fox's X-Men franchise may be in its whopping 18th year of existence, but the long standing property seems to be in flux at the moment. Fox recently delayed a gaggle of movies including Dark Phoenix, and the pending merger with Disney makes the future all the more unclear. Disney's bid on 20th Century Fox has the potential to bring the X-Men and Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper, finally uniting most Marvel characters in one shared universe. But how will this affect the upcoming movies like The New Mutants? Long standing X-Men producer Simon Kinberg recently addressed just this, saying:

The status [of the deal] I won't speak to because that's above my pay grade, but we're just continuing to make movies that we make and developing movies that we've been developing for years now, like Gambit, or finishing movies like New Mutants and Dark Phoenix and Deadpool, that comes out this Christmas, and others, Multiple Man, other movies we've been working on we continue to work on.

Well, this is interesting. While crossovers and universe-altering change seem like an inevitability, Simon Kinberg and the folks at the X-Men franchise are just continuing the work on previously announced projects. As for the future, your guess is as certain as ours.

Simon Kinberg's comments to Collider are sure to be a relief to the hardcore X-Men fandom, who may be nervous about the current state of the franchise. While everyone's favorite mutants have never been closer to joining the greater MCU, the current slate of movies have seen a fair amount of set backs. Just one day after releasing the trailer for Dark Phoenix, the movie ended up being pushed back a number of months. Also on hold is Channing Tatum's Gambit, and The New Mutants had previously been delayed after releasing an epic trailer of its own.

But despite these setbacks and the need for extensive reshoots in both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, 20th Century Fox and the powers that be in X-Men land are still moving forward with its set of future blockbusters. Aside from the projects that are already in the can, Simon Kinberg also maintains that both Gambit and Multiple Man are still in development. Gambit has Channing Tatum attached, and has been pushed back a handful of times already. Multiple Man has been a bit more of a mystery, but James Franco is reportedly playing the lead, in a film that may end up being rated R. We'll just have to see how things continue to develop over at Fox.

The Toughest Part About Filming The Girl In The Spiders Web, According To Fede Alvarez

Filming any movie presents actual challenges. Script issues need to be worked out. The budget's always a concern. But none of those things produced quite the number of obstacles as the weather did for Fede Alvarez as he chipped away at this week's blockbuster release, The Girl in the Spider's Web. Movies based on the Millennium series of novels are distinct for their icy cold European backdrops, and when CinemaBlend spoke with Alvarez about shooting this new movie, he opened up to us:

The toughest part was just enduring the cold. Because, even the action stuff that you do indoors, well, you are indoors. A lot of stuff that we did in this film, we actually went into the elements, in some of the coldest places on Earth. And that being your office [for] 12 hours a day really takes a toll. And it was super tough for the actors, particularly for Claire.

We were joking with colleagues following our screening of Fede Alvarez's new film, The Girl in the Spider's Web, that the next Lisbeth Salander adventure needs to be set in the Caribbean. Could you imagine Lisbeth (Claire Foy) using her hacking skills to track down a devious target in a sunny beach town? Me neither.

These stories come with the snowy, frigid backdrop, and the location is just as important to the action as are the characters. In fact, Lisbeth in this movie basically uses the elements to her advantage, trapping her prey in difficult situations that are enhanced by the ice and the cold. In one thrilling scene, Lisbeth even rides her signature motorcycle across a frozen body of water. That's spotted briefly in this clip:

These scenes look cool. And the frozen tundra is important to the overall tone of a Girl story. But shooting those scenes is something else entirely, and Fede Alvarez said he took real joy in watching his leading lady transform to meet the elements and embrace the hard-hitting action that's crucial to this movie's success. Alvarez tells CinemaBlend:

It was great to see Claire doing that, because she's never done that before, right? But she's so devoted to her craft, and you could see her training and being ready to do those things, doing push ups on set all of the time. Seeing her from doing The Crown to suddenly doing this person, it was fascinating to see that.

The Girl in the Spider's Web offers a different take on Lisbeth Salander. It's a more streamlined and knuckle-baring brawl of a film that moves with an intensity we expect out of a Fede Alvarez film. Where the previous movies kept audiences at an arm's length, this one is more accessible, and it's because of Claire Foy's interpretation of Lisbeth as a warrior with no quit in her.
