There's no film franchise quite as beloved as Star Wars. The epic space opera has been passed down across generations, with the fandom currently in the midst of its third main trilogy. The franchise has been historically focused on the Skywalker family line, which began when Anakin and Padme had twins with Leia and Luke. The latter is played famously by actor Mark Hamill, although it turns out he's never actually met his onscreen mother-- Natalie Portman. When Star Wars' official Twitter wished the Oscar winning actress a Happy Birthday, Hamill responded with a short and hilarious Tweet.

It looks like the galaxy far, far away is bigger than we thought. While it seems like everyone knows everyone in Hollywood, somehow (per his Tweet),Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman have never crossed paths--despite being Star Wars royalty. What would Padme think about it?While Mark Hamill starred in the original trilogy of Star Wars films (and The Last Jedi), the prequel trilogy revolved around Luke's parents, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala. We saw the softer side of Darth Vader, and the tragic end that their forbidden love ultimately brought. While the prequel trilogy is generally referred to negatively from fans and cinephiles alike, Natalie Portman played a badass diplomat and fighter, whose final moments saw the original trilogy's heroes being born.It's a little surprising that Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman never met throughout the filming, release, and advertising of the prequel trilogy. While Hamill had nothing to do with those movies, he has a continued relationship and respect with George Lucas, who directed both the original and prequels. He certainly attended the films' premieres, although it looks like he never actually crossed paths with Natalie Portman at the time. It seems like that would have made for a great photo opportunity, but Mark never actually met Padme. Bummer.In the decade and change since Revenge of the Sith was released, Natalie Portman has distanced herself from the Star Wars franchise. She doesn't haven an interest in the new films, something echoes Portman's current thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress is always moving forward, and therefore doesn't hold her legacy to the fans quite as preciously as Mark Hamill.It should be interesting to see how Mark Hamill's place in the Star Wars universe changes in the wake of The Last Jedi. While Luke seems to have perished after his Force Projection, perhaps he could return as a Force Ghost in Episode IX. Given Carrie Fisher's passing, there may be a space for an original hero to return for the upcoming sequel.Solo: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now. John Krasinski Originally Wasn't Going To Do A Quiet Place 2

Given A Quiet Place's performance at the box office, a sequel was inevitable. What was in doubt though was whether or not writer-director John Krasinski was going to return. Although we now know that he will be returning to write the sequel, John Krasinski originally wasn't going to do A Quiet Place 2, preferring to leave the original as a special experience he had with wife Emily Blunt, as he explained:

That was my intention for the movie itself. Then I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn't think it would go anywhere. So, I said to the studio, 'Just go do the movie with somebody else.'

Beyond just being a critical and commercial success, A Quiet Place was very personal for John Krasinski because he and his wife were in it together, so you can see how he might want to leave it as this singular, special experience. The first film was unlikely to get made in the first place, and even in the wake of its success, John Krasinski didn't expect to be involved in the sequel.

Yet despite having no intentions to return, the director did have an idea for the sequel swimming around in his head, but as reported by THR, he dismissed it and told the studio to move forward without him. So Paramount did just that and listened to pitches for A Quiet Place 2. But John Krasinski hadn't shut his mind to the sequel entirely and he told one of the producers his idea:

They heard some pitches, and I told Drew [Form, producer] about this little idea. And he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, 'This might really work.' So, I'm currently writing the sequel.

Ideas do not leave the mind so easily, and John Krasinski's sequel idea was percolating around in his head until he told producer Drew Form. Once it was out of his head, he began thinking about it some more and now he's writing A Quiet Place 2.

He may have started not wanting to be involved in such a hands-on way with the sequel, but a having a good story in your head and the option to tell it is powerfully persuasive. That's part of what makes John Krasinski's return as writer for A Quiet Place 2 so exciting.

Although we had heard that John Krasinski would be involved in the sequel, we did not know in what capacity. He could have just taken a producer credit and sent the project on its way. The fact that he came back specifically because he had an idea for the story is encouraging.

We know that John Krasinski's ideas are a big part of what made A Quiet Place the movie and success it was. The film originally included flashbacks and a different opening, but Jim Halpert adjusted the script to give it a different structure, less dialogue and added other little details that made the film so great.

As far as what John Krasinski has in store for A Quiet Place 2, it is too early to say and I imagine things will be kept quiet (pun intended) for some time. He has spoken in the past about exploring what is going on elsewhere at the same time in the story, perhaps following different characters.

A Quiet Place 2 tiptoes into theaters on May 15, 2020. That's a long ways off, but there is plenty of big movies coming out to hold you off until then. Check out next year's lineup in our 2019 release schedule.

Sounds like Green Lantern superhero buddies Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi will reunite on screen in Free Guy. Let's hope this movie is a little bit more successful!

Taika Waititi is joining Ryan Reynolds' action comedy Free Guy, Deadline reports, which follows a bank teller who discovers that he's actually a player inside a video game. With the help of an avatar, he tries to prevent the makers of the game from shutting down his world.

The film, directed by Shawn Levy, also stars Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Kerry (Stranger Things), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Brockmire), and Lil Rel (Get Out).

There's no word on who Taika Waititi would play. He's become best known for his directing work -- including Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok -- but he also has a solid list of acting roles.

One of his early roles was in the 2011 DC Comics movie Green Lantern. Taika Waititi played Ferris Aircraft engineer Thomas Kalmaku, friend of Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. Check out a scene with Hal and Tom, with Hal showing Tom his suit:

It's a fun scene -- Taika looks so different! -- but Green Lantern was a notorious misfire across the board, and Ryan Reynolds has been joking about it ever since. Still, he co-starred with Blake Lively, who is now his wife, and the rest of the cast was equally strong. And now Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi are reuniting nearly 10 years later, when their careers are in very very different (and better) places.

Now Ryan Reynolds is becoming synonymous with Deadpool, but fans are also excited for his Pokmon: Detective Pikachu, which opens in May. He also has the sequel The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard in the works.

As for Taika Waititi, he has become such a sought-after writer/director, he was the only one fans were semi-OK with taking on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when it looked like James Gunn wouldn't return.

Taika Waititi is directing an episode of Disney+'s Star Wars series The Mandalorian, and he might also be voicing a character. He's also a director and producer of the FX series What We Do in the Shadows, which is based on his film.

Last we heard, Free Guy was looking at a July 3, 2020 release date -- but don't go circling the date on your movie calendar, 'cause it may move. In the meantime, keep up with what we do know is coming this year with our 2019 movie release date schedule.
