The Marvel Cosmic Character Who Was Almost Included In Avengers: Infinity War

The debut of Avengers: Infinity War is finally upon us, which means the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to converge into one massive event. It's a movie that audiences have waited years to see, and it will bring some notable new characters into the fold for the showdown with Thanos. With that said, one hero who appeared in an original draft of the film, but didn't end up making it into the final cut, is none other than Adam Warlock. Infinity War screenwriter Christopher Markus explained:

Well, there are some in the original Infinity Gauntlet series that are-- Like, we didn't introduce Adam Warlock, because it's a massive backbend and you practically have to make an Adam Warlock movie to introduce him. He just can't walk onscreen. So, there was a brief moment where we were like, Ehhh..., and then we were like-- [He points to the movie's poster.] We have that many characters already!

In reference to the Marvel source material, including Adam Warlock in the events of Avengers: Infinity War arguably would've made plenty of sense in the long run. After all, the character is a fundamental element of the original Infinity Gauntlet story (one could even argue that he's the main character of that book), so his presence in an adaptation of that story would seem like a logical step. That said, Christopher Markus makes a clear point by addressing the fact that Infinity War was already too densely populated to bring someone as complicated as Adam Warlock into the equation. With no solo movie to get him set up before this crossover, they instead opted to leave him on the table.

It's also worth mentioning the fact that Adam Warlock is tied up in another corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now. The character's origin was teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with the promise that he would eventually show up. However, given the changes that have been made to how Adam comes into being (and how far removed his origins are from the Infinity War plotline), bringing him in would've been a massive undertaking.

Of course, Adam Warlock isn't the only element that didn't make it into the final draft of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely's screenplay for Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, elsewhere in the writing team's interview with ET to discuss elements of the story, they also admitted that (in their tired daze to craft the script) they initially included a giant snake as part of the story. Because sure, why the hell not?

After years of anticipation and buildup, audiences will finally be able to see Avengers: Infinity War when it premieres on April 27. How Deadpool 2s Terry Crews Feels About That Crazy Twist

The inclusion of Cable and Domino in Deadpool 2 was enough to show that the X-Men film franchise was laying the groundwork for the X-Force, but then we learned that Deadpool would be putting together the team to help him protect Russell Collins, the pyrokinetic mutant Cable was trying to kill. There were even shots of characters like Bedlam and Shatterstar in action, but as those who watched Deadpool 2 this past weekend learned, it was a ruse! Instead of actually getting to battle bad guys, all of Deadpool's X-Force recruits aside from Domino veered off course and met grisly ends because the Merc with the Mouth didn't take the wind advisory conditions seriously. It was incredibly shocking (in Vanisher's case, literally), but Terry Crews, who cameoed as Bedlam, knew from the get-go these characters weren't long for this world, though he felt bad for having to keep it a secret. Crews said:

...I felt horrible. The fans were excited. But, to me, the purpose was to give the audience something they would never expect. And it was crazy to keep all that a secret. When we were shooting in Vancouver I had to walk around with blankets over me because there were spies. I just got a few pages, sometimes even just a few lines of the script. Our goal was not to let anyone find out what we were going to do. Because the fanboy culture wants to find out everything before it happens.

Nowadays it's harder than ever for a movie production to keep secrets from the public, so to fool fans, the Deadpool 2 crew shot some extra X-Force scenes that were strictly for marketing. Walking into the movie, you probably expected to see Bedlam punch that guy on the street, but instead, he was promptly struck by a bus upon landing. As Terry Crews told Business Insider, he knew from the moment he signed on that Bedlam and most of his X-Force teammates would be killed off, and even though he wanted to say something about his actual role in Deadpool 2, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star knew it was important to keep things under wraps. However, one Deadpool 2 element that came as a surprise to him, as it did regular audiences, was Brad Pitt was cameoing as Vanisher, as that was shot at the last minute.

Along with Bedlam being rammed by a bus and Vanisher being electrocuted, Deadpool 2 saw Shatterstar being chopped up by helicopter blades, Zeitgeist being sucked into a wood chopper and Peter having his arm melted off by Zeitgeist's acid spit. Fortunately for Peter, Wade Wilson went back in time during the Deadpool 2 post-credits scene to warn his mustachioed teammate not to go near the slowly-dying Zeitgeist, but everyone else in that sequence remains deceased. However, this isn't the end of the X-Force on the big screen. Drew Goddard is writing and directing an X-Force movie that will star Deadpool, Cable and Domino, but we haven't learned yet who will replace those who fell during Deadpool 2.

Ralph Breaks The Internet Box Office: Disney's Animated Hit Continues To Dominate

Cold and blustery December weather has a way of keeping people inside their homes and out of movie theaters. Similarly, Christmas shopping causes people to watch their spending a bit more than in other months. Whether those factors came into play or not is anyone's guess, but it's undeniable that this was a slow weekend at the box office. Without any big new releases, Disney's animated comedy Ralph Breaks the Internet seeing its reign go unbroken.

After spending the past two weeks atop the box office, Ralph Breaks the Internet continues to win audiences over. Or, more importantly in this case, it continues to earn customer's ticket money. Taking in just over $16 million, Ralph saw a drop from last week's $25 million+ win, but it was still enough to take over the weekend. The Grinch wasn't far behind, however, and it had the smallest drop of anything in the Top 10.

Actually, the box office rankings are largely the same as they were last week. The top six films maintained their placements, and Green Book's ascent to #7 was the only upward move on the list. Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali's acclaimed drama continues to stand strong, and even if it's not making the kind of money that this holiday season's remakes and sequels have, it was still the only film this week to see a positive uptick in money earned. (It was a 0.1% uptick, but it counts.)

Both The Possession of Hannah Grace and Widows took box office dips this weekend. ScreenGems' demonic horror almost feels like the winner there, though, since the flick's current $11.5 million gross has topped its $9.5 million budget. Widows, meanwhile, has earned over $38 million in four weeks, which is still under its own $42 million budget.

Though it has remained in the Top 10, Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx's Robin Hood update has pretty much fizzled out here in the domestic box office. Its $27.2 million intake so far, even combined with over $38 million internationally, is still far behind its $100 budget. Perhaps things will look brighter the closer we get to the holidays, but perhaps not.

Unfortunately, this was the second-lowest grossing weekend of the year for Hollywood, with an estimated total of $77.8 million taken in by all movies. The biggest "new" entry of the week was a 2018 re-release of Steven Spielberg's Oscar winner Schindler's List. In over 1,000 theaters, the WWII drama made just $551,000. Next up was the limited release of Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan's Mary Queen of Scots, which brought in $200,000 on just four screens.

Box office news did get quite exciting on a global scale, however. James Wan's Aquaman was released n China, where it earned more the entire U.S. box office sum. Two weeks ahead of its release here, Aquaman has already earned $93.6 million just in China, and its success will continue to build next week as it opens up in more international markets.

Expect for next week's box office results to look quite different than they have the past two weeks, although there might still be an animated movie on top. The wide releases include the Spider-Ham-starring Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mortal Engines and Clint Eastwood's next team-up with Bradley Cooper, The Mule.

Stay tuned to see how things will shake out next week, with dozens of different Spider-Heroes trying to dethrone Ralph's place at #1. Not that anyone should be counting out an Eastwood-Cooper drama as the Oscar season starts to wind down.
