Doctor Strange's Director Has Returned To Twitter

Sometimes you just need to chill out and get away from the rat race of modern society to seek out spiritual renewal in Kamar-taj. Likewise, sometimes you just need a break from social media. Such was the case for Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson who left Twitter over the summer, in the wake of fellow MCU director James Gunn's firing over resurfaced offensive tweets. The director stayed on Instagram, but he has is apparently now ready to wade back in to social media's most treacherous waters. Scott Derrickson returned to Twitter. Take a look:

He never gave a specific reason for leaving Twitter-- other than it is Twitter. But after a bit of a hiatus, Scott Derrickson is back, much to the delight of fans. The gif in his return tweet is a clip from Cape Fear, showing the back of Robert De Niro's Max Cady. The tattoo shows the scales of justice with truth and justice perfectly balanced (as all things should be). Maybe this is Scott Derrickson's way of making a statement about his return and social media's role in objective truth. Or maybe he is hinting that Doctor Strange 2 will be a courtroom drama with Robert De Niro joining the cast. He is an MCU director, so such speculation is mandatory. Maybe it is just that he is back on Twitter, so why not show a gif of a back, makes total sense. Although the way he put the letters is a bit mysterious.

Scott Derrickson has historically been a great follow on Twitter for MCU fans, as he has frequently referenced Doctor Strange and teased certain things, in addition to giving his takes on film and TV. Also, like James Gunn, Scott Derrickson has been very outspoken politically on Twitter. So hopefully that doesn't cause any problems because the resurfacing of James Gunn's Tweets was a response to the political opinions he expressed online.

We've been waiting for some time to hear about if and when Doctor Strange 2 is going to happen, and if Scott Derrickson will return as director. Interestingly, a month or so ago, during his Twitter hiatus, Scott Derrickson made a cryptic post on Instagram showing Doctor Strange and teasing "See you in September." At the time, we speculated that this could mean the beginning of production on Doctor Strange 2. Well, it's September and Scott Derrickson has returned to Twitter. He also posted this Cape Fear reference on his Instagram with the same caption. I don't know what that means, but the tinfoil hat is definitely on and the hope is that this return to Twitter is prelude to some sort of exciting announcement, like perhaps Doctor Strange 2 taking Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's place on Marvel's Phase 4 calendar.

Will Smith Is Really Hoping For A Deadshot Movie

Although the live-action DC universe has had a bumpy road to theaters, there are a handful of characters and performance that stand out among the rest, with fans are hoping for more. For David Ayer's Suicide Squad, that was the case with both Harley Quinn and Deadshot. The latter was played by the great Will Smith, with the character presented as a complicated villain, murderer, father, and friend. It's currently unclear when Suicide Squad 2 will happen, but Smith is still very interesting in playing the character-- specifically in his own solo movie. When recently asked about leading a movie, he said:

I hope so, I love playing Deadshot. I'm really enjoying that character. They've been talking about it. If a good idea comes around... we've been having meetings but I would love to. I love Deadshot.

It looks like Will Smith is very interesting playing Deadshot in more DC movies. But although there have been some meetings, there doesn't appear to be a concrete plan for the actor to star in a solo flick.

Will Smith's comments come from a Youtube Live video he did (via Heroic Hollywood), where the actor fielded some questions before bungee jumping from the Grand Canyon for his 50th birthday. In it, Smith provided a quick update about his DCEU character, and the motivation to possibly do a spinoff movie of his own one day. But smart money says Suicide Squad 2 will happen before then.

As it stands now, Suicide Squad 2 is still very much in development, with no release date or production start announcement. The Accountant director Gavin O'Connor is currently attached to both direct and write the project-- taking on the mantle from David Ayer. Leading actors Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto have all expressed their interest to return, and hopefully fix the misstep that was the first film. But that's not happening anytime soon.

Back in August, it was announced that Suicide Squad 2 was going to be delayed, reportedly so Will Smith could film the sequel to Netflix's Bright. In the meantime, it seems DC is moving forward with its Birds of Prey movie, allowing Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn to appear in another DC movie before teaming back up with her villain buddies. Smith always has a ton of projects going on at once, and this point in his career is certainly no exception. As such, we'll have to wait for Deadshot to come back and kick some more ass.

Deadshot does seem like a great character to give a solo movie, perhaps even a prequel. His life of crime was only briefly scene and referenced in Suicide Squad, as well as his relationship with his daughter. Perhaps a solo movie could turn back time, and show Deadshot in his hayday.

Because Ant-Man and the Wasp is the Marvel movie following Avengers: Infinity War, it's actually a movie we haven't heard a ton about. The focus has been on both Black Panther and The Avengers over the past few months, but now that we are getting closer to Ant-Man and the Wasp's release date, we are learning a bit more about the movie. In a recent magazine profile Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed revealed that the movie will not be a romantic comedy, as previous reports suggested. He said:

It's not a romantic comedy. The idea might enter Hope's brain: does she need Scott Lang in her life?

So, the gist here is that Hope Van Dyne and Scott Lang's connection to one another will be explored, especially as Hope comes into her own with her own suit and powers. I'm also assuming, due to the general tone of the first Ant-Man flick, that we can expect Ant-Man and The Wasp to be an amusing movie, as well. However, it won't be a rom-com, and Peyton Reed told Empire Magazine that we should not expect the girl-meets-guy beats that come with most romantic comedies.

In fact, he also went a little further to clarify and explain that really Hope Van Dyne and her journey to becoming The Wasp are at the heart of this film. So, if you were expecting this to be another Ant-Man-focused film, you may be a little disappointed. He said:

It was important to me, in this movie called Ant-Man and The Wasp, that she's not a supporting character. She's a lead character. She's become a fully-formed hero.

Previously, a report came out indicating that Ant-Man and the Wasp was being considered to be a rom-com, after Elena Brodskaya, a foreign marketing VP for Disney, called it that at a Russian International Film event. Considering all of the action that is involved in Marvel films, and also just the sheer amount of information we have about Ant-Man and the Wasp following the release of the first trailer for the movie, it makes sense that this wouldn't be a straight up rom-com. The trailer itself focuses a ton on the powers the Wasp will have, as well as her action prowess in general. Still, those original comments focusing on a romantic component had me sold hook, line and sinker.

Marvel movies have been genre-blending quite a bit in recent years, with Logan's western bent standing out as a prime example. Marvel movies have featured romances in the past, but I don't think I would be mad if a Marvel movie were to decide to keep romance as a focal point, provided the movie was still good. I'm assuming over the next few months that Marvel will let loose another Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer, and we'll see what else the movie has in store beyond Hank Pym, Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne going on the run.

In the meantime, Avengers: Infinity War is out -- and has a new release date -- on April 27. We'll get the full release of Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6. Here's what all we know about the movie.
