Star Wars: The Last Jedi Cut An Emotional Scene With Luke And Leia
While it was released over two months ago, the contents of Star Wars: the Last Jedi are still being discussed. Rian Johnson crafted a capsulated sequel that expanded the beloved franchise, while also subverting most fan expectations. Johnson clearly had some very intriguing visions for The Last Jedi, and ended up filming a ton of material that unfortunately didn't make it into the finished film. Details about the deleted scenes have been slowly trickling out, and now we're privy to one particularly emotional one for Luke and Leia. According to Johnson, the scene originally allowed the characters to connect and grieve Han's death together, despite their physical distance.
We realized just for pacing in that section we had to stick with Rey and Luke, and we wanted just to go straight from him slamming the door of the hut into the day-in-the-life montage, of him going around the island. Taking that bit out suddenly propelled us forward into that segment in a way that just felt much better for the film. I was very sorry to lose it. I think it's a beautiful performance from Mark Hamill, but I think that we get a similar beat with him, later when he's in the Falcon with R2.
Does anybody else have chills? It's unclear which deleted scenes will make it to Star Wars: The Last Jedi's home release, but fingers crossed this quick moment is one of them. Han's death was major for the fandom, so seeing the other characters grieving would definitely be a cathartic experience.
Rian Johnson's comments to EW details some of the many deleted scenes that got the chop inThe Last Jedi. The director reportedly shot a ton of material, and then had the task of cutting it down to the final product's 152 minute run. Ensuring the pace of the film moved well seems like one of Johnson's focuses, and explains why so many intriguing scenes ultimately got cut.
In addition to Leia and Luke's moment of shared grief, there are a few other deleted scenes that sound epic. For instance, Captain Phasma and Finn's confrontation was originally longer and way more interesting. This included Finn revealing that Phasma lowered Starkiller Base's shields in order to save herself, resulting in the death of thousands of First Order soldiers. But pacing and runtime were ultimately more important, and Gwendoline Christie's character got the shaft for a second movie.
It should be interesting to see what deleted scenes come with Star Wars: The Last Jedi's home release; the trailer teased 14 new scenes. Star Wars fans are always eager for more, and new content may help resolve some of the issues the community may have had with the sequel.

New John Wick 3 Image Features The Return Of Laurence Fishburne And Ian McShane
John Wick has pissed off a lot of people in his two theatrical appearances so far, but he isn't without allies. Ian McShane's Winston has been arguably John's biggest supporter, and while Laurence Fishburne's Bowery King interest in John during John Wick: Chapter 2 was more self-serving, he nonetheless helped the hitman when no one else would. Both men will be back next year in John Wick 3: Parabellum, and the latest image from the production shows Winston and The Bowery King finally coming face-to-face.
Given their respective positions within this world's assassin community, it's guaranteed Winston and The Bowery King are familiar with one another, and perhaps they've met before the events of the John Wick movies. However, both men interacted with Keanu Reeves' John separately during John Wick: Chapter 2, so it'll be in John Wick 3: Parabellum that we see them meeting onscreen for the first time. Both men are very powerful within this community of killers and colorful criminals, Winston being the manager of the Continental Hotel's New York branch and The Bowery King being an underground crime lord commanding an army of homeless agents. Seeing them together, I can only imagine what they're meeting about in this picture, though it's a good bet it involves everyone's favorite badass assassin.
As far as their relationships with John Wick go, Winston definitely cares more of John's well being than The Bowery King. Granted, Winston was forced to tell John at the end of John Wick: Chapter 2 that he'd been declared excommunicado by the High Table for killing Santino D'Antonio on Continental grounds, as well as call in that the bounty on John's head had been doubled and offered globally. However, Winston gave John a one hour head start and a Marker for future use, so clearly he has a soft spot for John. The Bowery King, on the other hand, only helped John in Chapter 2 because if Santino gained more power, his operation would eventually be kaput. So while Winston will hopefully still be supportive of John in John Wick 3: Parabellum, there's no guarantee The Bowery King will follow suit.
Along with Winston and The Bowery King, John Wick 3: Parabellum's return characters include Lance Reddick's Charon, Ruby Rose's Ares and Common's Cassian. The threequel's new players include Halle Berry's Sofia, Angelica Huston's The Director, Asia Kate Dillon's The Adjudicator, Mark Dacascos' Zero and Jason Mantzoukas' Tick Tock Man. Parabellum will see John trying escape from New York, fighting and killing anyone who stands in his way.

New Avengers: Endgame Clip Reveals Another Dusted Character
Were almost a year removed from Avengers: Infinity War and like the Avengers themselves, we are still tallying the losses from The Decimation wrought by Thanos. Thanks to the posters for Avengers: Endgame, we recently learned that Shuri is indeed among the fallen, and the Avengers will not be able to rely on her brilliance for the war to come. Now a new clip for the upcoming film has revealed that another character, one we havent seen in a while, was dusted: Stellan Skarsgrds Dr. Erik Selvig. Take a look:
Weve seen a bunch of shots like this in the marketing for Avengers: Endgame, where the various surviving heroes look at images of all the missing and dead friends and teammates who fell during Infinity War. As you can see on the left of this screenshot, the new clip from Avengers: Endgame shows that Dr. Erik Selvig, the astrophysicist from the Thor films, has also been reduced to dust.
We last saw Dr. Selvig in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was one of the team members working at the new Avengers facility in Upstate New York. There he, along with his team of scientists, was presumably working to help the Avengers and the world protect itself against new threats. As Captain Marvel is being shown in the screenshot above and we now see, his mind and knowledge will not be on available to aid the Avengers this time around.
Its been so long since weve seen him that you might have forgotten about Dr. Selvig, but the revelation of his dusting just reminds us that he was a part of this world and the scope of what Thanos did. All the characters weve met over the years of the MCU that were still alive at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War were subject to the indiscriminate culling of The Decimation.
With all that said, heres where things get interesting. We thought Dr. Erik Selvig was alive. The human trio of the first Thor film, Stellan Skarsgrds Dr. Selvig, Kat Dennings Darcy Lewis and Natalie Portmans Jane Foster, all seemed to have survived the snap because they all appear in the novel Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest Volume Two: Aftermath.
That book by Brandon T. Snider is about the aftermath of The Decimation. In it, Dr. Selvig and Darcy set out to find and understand the cause of the devastation and in their quest they are aided by Jane Foster. The three are dubbed the Science Avengers. So, how can Dr. Selvig be dead in this clip from Avengers: Endgame if he is one of the main characters in an entire book set after Avengers: Infinity War?
One possibility is that Dr. Selvig is only presumed dead. Im sure with over 3 billion people snapped out of existence at once, it would take a while to know for sure who is and isnt still alive. Weve also seen the Avengers looking at an image of Scott Lang in these kinds of scenes in the trailers so they can be wrong. Of course, he was in the Quantum Realm.
We also know that Marvel is totally willing to add footage and change things and design the trailers to throw us off so that we dont know too much when we see the film. That could be a possibility here, but that effort for a character we havent seen in an entire Phase would seem unnecessary.
I dont know that well get a firm answer that clears up this disparity, but if I were to guess, I would say that sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one. This is just a book and I dont think Marvel is super concerned about the canonical complications from it. The movies are what takes precedence and are the official canon. We see this in Star Wars too, where the books are supposed to be canon, but their level of tie-in with the new films has amounted to a few Easter eggs at best.
So I think we can probably count Dr. Selvig among those hoping for an undusting until we hear otherwise. You can check out the new clip with Dr. Selvigs digital headstone in the video below.
