Tim Allen Spills Some Key Details About Keanu Reeves Toy Story 4 Role

Did you know that Keanu Reeves was in Toy Story 4? We didn't, either, but what a pleasant surprise! We're just now starting to learn more about next year's Pixar sequel, which will return Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as iconic toy characters Woody and Buzz. And it was the later who revealed Reeves' role in Toy Story 4, explaining:

Keanu Reeves has got a great part. Actually, a little inside story, even [Reeves] said --- gentle, wonderful guy that he is --- 'This sounds too much like Buzz Lightyear.' And his character does have an edge to that. And the guy said, 'So we calmed him down a little bit,' and they reminded me his toy is only that big.

Tim Allen makes a very tiny gesture with his fingers as he explains the size of Keanu Reeves' toy in Toy Story 4 on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. But a quick scan of IMDB doesn't have Keanu Reeves listed at all, so this mysterious part is breaking news.

The focus of the marketing on the first trailer fell on Forky (voiced by Veep's Tony Hale), and from what we can tell, Forky is a craft project -- probably created by Bonnie -- who has an existential crisis when he comes to life. Deep stuff.

After meeting Forky in the first teaser, Toy Story 4 unveiled a second look that showed off Ducky and Bunny, two new characters voiced by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key. Check that out here:

As Tim Allen elaborates in this Jimmy Fallon interview, there are several new characters who will be introduced in this sequel, and now we know that Keanu Reeves will voice one of them. The Toy Story sequels have done an excellent job at bringing in memorable new people, from Jessie (Joan Cusack) and Barbie (Jodi Benson) to the menacing Lotso. Way to ruin the smell of strawberries for us, you huggin' bear.

Twilight is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary, which means that the lunchbox and the Trapper Keeper you have with Edward and Bella's faces on it officially is a decade old. Catherine Hardwicke's massively successful adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's massively popular novel changed the industry in numerous ways. But when we asked Hardwicke what she'd change about Twilight, if she had the ability to make it today, she candidly told CinemaBlend:

I think one thing is, we would have probably had a little bit more money to do some of the fun CGI things that I wanted to do, because CGI costs have come down. We could have done a few more fun stunts and things, because I wanted to do quite a bit more at the baseball stadium. I want to do quite a bit more... I had a lot more storyboarded for the end, the finale sequence. So I think we would have been able to afford a lot of that now. Yeah, that would have been fun.

Naturally, any filmmaker revisiting a movie that they slaved over 10 years ago would LOVE to have even more money in their production budget, because there's no doubt that sacrifices have to be made on virtually every film set because things can't be afforded. And it's fun to hear Catherine Hardwicke single out specific scenes in 2008's Twilight that she wishes she could have improved with a few extra bucks.

One memorable scene is the baseball game staged in the middle of Twilight. It is... unexpected. Bella (Kristen Stewart) is getting used to the fact that the pale high schooler she's falling in love with is an undead vampire. And so is his entire, cooler-than-thou family. When Edward invites her to bond with the fam, she learns that vampires play baseball. In thunderstorms. It's really strange, in a cool and stylish way. Here, watch for yourself:

Given the fact that this is a 10-year-old clip, the effects actually age pretty well. But in watching how Catherine Hardwicke used slow motion to enhance the physical powers of the Cullen vampires, you can see how CGI improvements would have accentuated the positives in the Twilight baseball scene. It still would have been an unexpected addition to the love story. But it also would have looked better.

That being said, when looking back on the 10 years that have passed since Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke confessed that the one thing technology could never improve on was the chemistry of her leads. She tells CinemaBlend:

But for the actors, you know, it would be the same. I mean the core of this story -- technology hasn't changed how to get great chemistry between two actors. And I think those two, I would never imagine anybody else, like you say, in those two roles.

We spoke with Catherine Hardwicke earlier as she prepared to bring Twilight back to theaters for this anniversary screening. And she praised the casting of both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as her leads. While Twilight opened the door for teen lit at the multiplexes, it changed the career paths of basically everyone involved -- none more so that Pattinson and Stewart. They each have gone on to be involved with incredible films and exciting filmmakers. But now will ever be quite as huge as Twilight was.

John Wick: Chapter 4 Is Already Happening

Not only is John Wick skilled at killing people, his movies have also become increasingly better at killing it at the box office. The latest release, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, has pulled in over $93 million worldwide so far, and it kicked off Avengers: Endgame as the highest grossing domestic release this past weekend. Well, Lionsgate didnt waste anytime giving the green light to John Wick: Chapter 4; we can expect it two years from now.

One of the ways John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum has been marketing itself is through texts from The Continental making those who subscribe to those texts feel like their an assassin being updated by the hotel. Well, today the message was sent out that John Wick: Chapter 4 is slated for release on May 21, 2021.

With all the money John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum has pulled in so far, as well as the positive critical reception it has received, its hardly shocking that Lionsgate wants to keep the story going. While Keanu Reeves is arguably still best known for the Bill & Ted and Matrix movies, the John Wick franchise is his latest big claim to fame, and the actor has said hes game to keep playing the character as long as people are still interested in these tales. Now we can look forward to at least one more chapter in this intense, violent saga.

Needless to say that John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum put John through all kinds of hell, just like its predecessors, from being hunted down by fellow assassins looking to collect the $14 million on his head to fighting off High Table operatives that invaded Winstons branch of The Continental. He even cut off his own finger just to show commitment to The Elder, one of the High Table members, although that loyalty didnt last long. Ultimately, the threequel ended with John in his worst state yet: being shot several times by Winston and falling off the roof of The Continental.

Fortunately for John, he was retrieved by the Tick Tock Man and deposited before The Bowery King, who had been severely injured earlier in Parabellum as punishment for helping John in Chapter 2. Forced underground, Bowery King informed John that hes pissed off about what The High Table did to him and asked if John felt the same way, to which John simply responded, Yeah.

There werent any plot details accompanying the John Wick: Chapter 4 release date announcement, but we can reasonably assume that the next installment will see John, Bowery King and whatever allies they can scrounge up waging war against The High Table. Whether that conflict will be wrapped up at the end of Chapter 4 or if it will extend into a potential Chapter 5 remains to be seen, but at least fans of this franchise can take comfort knowing this has evolved from a trilogy to a longer film series.

As far as major film franchises go, there are none quite as massively popular as Star Wars. George Lucas' colorful and beloved world has been passed down across the generations, resulting in a massive fanbase that is all too happy to shell out money with each new release. And while the galaxy far, far away is woven into American pop culture, it doesn't carry the same weight internationally. The China market, which has become a saving grace for many blockbusters, is thoroughly disinterested in the Star Wars franchise, despite it being just about the biggest property in the world. Rogue One actor Donnie Yen is from Honk Kong, and recently spoke to the disconnection between Chinese audiences and the Star Wars franchise as a whole:

Chinese audiences didn't grow up with Star Wars culture so, unfortunately, it didn't work. Marvel is a lot easier to understand. Star Wars, there's a whole universe out there. Marvel, from the costumes, to the music, to the idols, to the stars, it's much easier to close the gap between the film itself and the audience.

Sometimes show business is just about public opinion and word of mouth. And without decades of Star Wars installments and phrases like "I am your father" being repeated ad nauseam, it's hard to get the Chinese audience excited about the series we know so well.

Donnie Yen's comments to JoBlo get to the heart of the problem, and Star Wars' lack of significant performance in the Eastern market. While Star Wars has consistently broken records and dominated at the box office since it returned to theaters with The Force Awakens, Chinese audiences aren't flocking to the theaters. And although Lucasfilm has pulled out all the stops with bold marketing choices, the money simply isn't there.

This can be especially seen with Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The subversive sequel may have divided fans, but Chinese audiences were largely unenthused. The Last Jedi lost at the box office in its opening weekend in China, and only a month later, there were almost no more theaters showing it. In fact, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom made the same amount of gross with its opening weekend in China than The Last Jedi's entire haul.

While the Chinese market hasn't been a friend to the galaxy far, far away, there are plenty of movies that have found a saving grace with eastern audiences. One major example is 2016's Warcraft. While it had a disappointing box office performance in America, it resonated with Chinese moviegoers, and the flick made a insane $145 million in four days. The Rock's recent action movie Skyscraper was also saved from box office disaster in China, as it made $75 million during its opening weekend.
