The Deadpool Cast Has Ideas About Who Survived Thanos' Snap

It's been several months since Thanos snapped his fingers and wiped out half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War and fans have largely recovered from the shock and tears. Marvel has more or less confirmed the status of several side characters whose fate wasn't revealed in the movie, but what about superheroes in the other cinematic universes? If Thanos' snap reached all the way to Fox's door, it doesn't sound like many characters from this summer's Deadpool 2 made it out alive. The cast of the sequel was asked if they think they would have survived and asides from Domino, no one was too confident.

The Disney-Fox deal is inching farther and farther to completion, and though the X-Men and Deadpool seem destined to appear in the MCU, we're still a while from that reality. However, that can't stop the cast of Deadpool from wondering if their characters would have survived Thanos' famous snap that destroyed half of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Overall, the cast wasn't too sure of their chances, but the universal agreement was that Domino definitely survived. Thanks to her luck powers, which were shown off in fun and surprisingly cinematic ways in Deadpool 2, Domino likely would have been unaffected by the snap. Afterall, a 50-50 shot is pretty good when you're born lucky.

The rest of the cast wasn't feeling too lucky. Colossus actor Stefan Kapicic felt optimistic that Colossus made it through unscathed. Ryan Reynolds was less confident about that. The Deadpool star jokingly told HuffPost that Colossus was the first to die and "dishonorably" at that. However, Reynolds doesn't see how anyone can survive Thanos, though, that might have something to do with Reynolds envisioning Thanos snapping to West Side Story.

Karan Soni, who plays Dopinder, thinks that he has a good shot of surviving because he's tight with Thanos' actor, Josh Brolin. Soni and Brolin apparently DM each other all the time, so he's got an in when it comes time to snap half the universe to death. Brolin, of course, played both Thanos and Deadpool 2's Cable this summer, giving these two separate movies at least a minor connection.

While everyone has fun imagining these "What Ifs," one day it might be a reality. When Disney acquires Fox's media assets, that will include Marvel superheroes, which means the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool could be a part of the MCU. How exactly these characters would be incorporated is anyone's guess, but it'll certainly be interesting to see one day.

Alita: Battle Angel: Check Out Rosa Salazar's Intense Training In Exclusive Clip

Playing a role like the central character in director Robert Rodriguezs Alita: Battle Angel is a task that requires a lot of CGI work, and a good amount of mocap to boot. But on top of those fantastical elements is a very physical component, something that actor Rosa Salazar, and everyone else involved in the films production, totally understood.

Now, in preparation for the films home video release, we have an exclusive clip of just how intense Salazars training regimen was, and its pretty impressive. See for yourself below:

As mentioned in the Alita: Battle Angel video above, it took roughly 5-6 months of training after Roza Salazar got the role to get her in shape for the part. That in and of itself is impressive, considering most films probably would have just used CGI stunt doubles and flashy effects to nail down the impressive way Alita moves throughout her travels in Iron City.

But watching the footage from the various training sessions, as well as remarks from folks like Salazar, producer Jon Landau, and stunt coordinator Garrett Warren, its amazing to see just how much practical work went into getting Alita: Battle Angels central character battle ready. Seeing Rosa train in everything from martial arts to roller blading, which definitely came in handy during the Motorball sequences, is a feat that speaks to the dedication that is seen in every inch of this films being.

But, of course, its not just Rosa Salazar behind Alitas impressive physical thrills. As the actor herself discusses further in the clip above, there was a handful of women that threw themselves physically into portraying Alita: Battle Angels protagonist, particularly in service of the following skills:

It takes a lot of girls to bring Alita to life. It takes about nine girls. Im doing all the acting, and doing all I can do martial arts wise. But then there are other girls who take it from there, who can twirl through the air six times, who can contort their bodies because theyve been doing it since birth. They really take it to the next level.

Knowing the level of detail that producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez were looking to impart onto Alita: Battle Angels blend of practical skills and effects, as well as cutting edge CGI, the level of effort required to really nail Alitas role seems like par for the course. That doesnt rob Rosa Salazar or any of the stunt performers and trainers who aided her in shaping the outcome of the film, as no matter how clear the path to such a result may seem, its never as simple as showing up and putting in the minimum effort.

Alita: Battle Angel wont be on Digital HD until July 9, with 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD releases landing on July 23.

Academy Awards Shoot Down Rule About Excluding Netflix From Oscar Nominations

Netflix had it's most successful year at the Academy Awards this year when the streaming service/movie studio saw Roma take home multiple awards. While it didn't win the big Best Picture prize, simply being nominated for the award was a major step. However, it was one that not everybody was happy to see.

The word on the street was that Steven Spielberg, a member of the directors branch of the Academy with a seat on the Board of Governors, would be asking for a change in the rules for Oscar nomination that would have prevented the current release practices of Netflix, where the film is only given a limited theatrical release in a few places before ending up on the streaming platform, from being nominated. However, the Board of Governors has now decided against any changes to eligibility requirements.

As it stood, any movie that had a seven day theatrical run, with at least three showings per day, in the city of Los Angeles, was eligible for nomination for Academy Awards. To that end, Netflix would release a film like Roma in order to meet those requirements, and at the end of that week, the film would debut on the streaming service for all subscribers to see.

It's unclear, based on what's reported by Variety, if a rule change was every formerly requested, however, Academy President John Bailey did say that the Academy would continue to study the broad changes occurring within the industry, so the possibility of future changes certainly remains open.

There are many who feel quite strongly that part of what constitutes a "movie" is the theatrical experience, and while a company like Netflix may offer that in a very limited fashion, it's certainly not what the company is about. The experience is truly different, it's hard to argue otherwise, but should awards only be available to those who offer one particular experience?

Streaming services certainly do blur the line between film and television. Netflix and others create original material in both fields and make that content available to watch anywhere. The one place it's hardest to watch, however, is the movie theater. Unless you live in Los Angeles or one of the few other places that Netflix movies get screened, you can't watch them on the big screen.

This is an issue that clearly isn't dead. The film industry has gone through massive changes before and it will certainly adjust to these. It's simply a question of how. Netflix certainly isn't going away and considering the company's success with original movies, both in terms of viewership and awards success, it seems like a matter of time before Netflix wins a Best Picture Oscar, unless the Academy decides one day they shouldn't be considered for them.
