Could Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Holdo Return? Here's What Laura Dern Said

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi features several stellar death scenes, but few are quite as jaw-dropping as the Holdo Maneuver. Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern) goes out in a blaze of glory, leaving many fans to wonder what the future could hold for the legacy of the one-off character. In fact, Laura Dern even seems interested in learning where more about Holdo's story, opening up in a recent interview and admitting that she's intrigued by possibilities to continue exploring Holdo's fate. Dern addressed the possibility of Holdo using an escape pod just before her Holdo Maneuver and said:

This is the message to send to the world: I am absolutely comfortable with that theory. I'm thrilled to be a hero but I remember a long time ago, someone saying, 'No one dies in space'.

So, if the fans prove powerful enough to will Amilyn Holdo's survival into existence, then it sounds like Laura Dern will be more than willing to accept that theory and help make it a reality. As it currently stands, there's no definitive evidence to disprove the possibility that Holdo didn't somehow manage to make it off of her cruiser before turning it into a light speed missile. If someone decides to retcon her death, then she will come back to continue playing the character.

Of course, those decisions will take place far, far away from Laura Dern before they end up happening; all she can do is hope that her idea moves forward. The Big Little Lies actress continued her interview with Evening Standard and explained she'd be happy to learn more about Holdo's past, as well, noting,

I'm eager to learn about the future -- or the past -- of this character only because I loved playing her so much it would be heartbreaking not to have an experience of playing her again. Whether or not there's an escape pod --- unfortunately I'm not the one that knows!

That comment raises a definite possibility about how the character could continue even if she did indeed die in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The Star Wars timeline is one of the most complicated in the realm of pop culture, and there is plenty of room to continue exploring the life of Holdo's earlier years as a politician and military leader. Like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the franchise could return to a previous era in the Star Wars franchise, which would allow Holdo to come back and play a more prominent role.

Regardless of whether or not there's a future for Amilyn Holdo in the Star Wars universe, there's still plenty of room for our current heroes to keep moving forward. The franchise will continue with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story later this year on May 25, and the current trilogy will continue when Star Wars: Episode IX debuts on December 20, 2019.

Bill Murray Is Down To Return For The New Ghostbusters Movie

For a long time, the lack of interest from Bill Murray was one of the impediments to a continuation of the beloved Ghostbusters franchise actually happening, before the actor finally relented and had a cameo in the 2016 reboot of the property. But with a secretive new movie set in the continuity of the first two Ghostbusters films on the way, we are again left to wonder if Murrays Dr. Peter Venkman will return. Addressing why he came back for the reboot, Bill Murray provided some hope on the matter when he said:

I was in that movie just because they asked me, and I knew if I said no, I was saying I didnt support that movie. I felt like, OK, Im going to support them because I support them as people. So I did that one and I would do this next one.

Bill Murrays friendship with fellow SNL alums Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy is what compelled him to finally return to the Ghostbusters franchise. He wanted to support his friends and the biggest support and vote of confidence he could give them was to be in the Ghostbusters reboot when he was asked. Yet, even though the new Ghostbusters movie will not feature those actors, Bill Murray is still down to return, as he told IndieWire at the Cannes Film Festival.

You hear that Jason Reitman? Thats the sound of legions of Ghostbusters fans telling you to pick up the phone and call Bill Murray. The actor broke the seal with his appearance in Paul Feigs reboot and isnt as staunchly against participating in the franchise as he once was. On the contrary, he seems quite open to the possibility of returning for the secretive continuation of the series from original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitmans son Jason.

Its an encouraging response because Bill Murray could have easily just said that he wasnt interested or equivocated on the topic, but instead he said quite plainly that he would be willing to do the next Ghostbusters movie. Maybe all he needs is to be asked and to see a good script.

Despite Bill Murrays aversion to working with Sony and in big Hollywood studio movies, likely contributors to his longstanding reticence to return, he still has great affection for the Ghostbusters franchise, as he explained:

This franchise paid for my sons college. We made this thing. We are the caretakers of it. Its a great thing and it was a really fun movie to make. Its a real movie with some really funny stuff in it.

Bill Murray knows how important Ghostbusters was to his career and its something that he had a good time making. He also has an appreciation for the enduring nature of the franchise and how important it is to people. The actor also seems to feel some responsibility as a steward of the franchise to take care of it and perhaps that is part of why he has no problem returning for this new movie.

Bill Murray isnt the only one of the original Ghostbusters willing to be a part of the 2020 film either. Although Harold Ramis sadly passed away in 2014, both Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson have expressed excitement about the new film and presumably a willingness to participate.

Well have to wait and see if any of the original Ghostbusters do return. If they do, theyll be joined by the new actors who have already been cast, including McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon and hitting for a nostalgia trifecta, Stranger Things and IT actor Finn Wolfhard.

Plot details are nonexistent at this point, but this new, untitled Ghostbusters movie will be set in the same continuity as the original 80s movies. So heres hoping that Bill Murray and the rest of the OG team return in some capacity for a movie that comes as close as possible to the untouchable original.

Although Universals Dark Universe franchise is no longer focusing on interconnectivity between its movies following the underwhelming performance of The Mummy in 2017, some of its announced projects are still moving forward. The Invisible Man is one of them, only rather than Johnny Depp playing the lead as previously announced, that role will now be filled by The Handmaids Tale star Elisabeth Moss.

Back in January, at the same time it was announced that future Dark Universe movies would be standalone stories, it was revealed that Johnny Depp, who had been attached to The Invisible Man since 2016, would no longer appear in the movie, although he could still appear in a different Dark Universe project down the line. A little over a month later, it was reported that Elisabeth Moss was being eyed to take over the leading role.

Now EW has confirmed that the actress, also well known for her time on Mad Men, has officially boarded The Invisible Man, which Jason Blum is producing through his Blumhouse Productions company. This will be Moss second Blumhouse picture, as she recently starred in Jordan Peeles Us, which has been met with critical acclaim and made over $220 million worldwide so far.

Its also important to mention that this isnt a case where Elisabeth Moss will lead a movie that was originally intended for Johnny Depp. The current version of The Invisible Man is being written and directed by Upgrade and Insidious: Chapter 3s Leigh Whannell, so hes crafting a brand new story that Moss will star in. Whether that means the title will be changed to The Invisible Woman (assuming shes the one pulling off the disappearing act) or something else remains to be seen.

It was clarified in January that just because The Invisible Man was being retooled didnt necessarily mean it would be the next Dark Universe movie to be released. However, the fact that Elisabeth Moss has officially been cast just a month after her name was mentioned for the project could indicate Universal is pushing towards getting The Invisible Man off the ground sooner rather than later.

Originally a novel penned by The Time Machine author H.G. Wells, The Invisible Man was first adapted as a movie in 1933, with Claude Rains playing the eponymous role. Although the Invisible Man (a moniker adopted by several individuals) would be a recurring antagonist in the golden age of Universal Monsters, the character hasnt been the star of his own movie in recent decades, although one named Rodney Skinner did appear in 2003s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

As for Elisabeth Moss, along with the previously mentioned projects, her credits include The West Wing, Top of the Lake, Get Him to the Greek and The Old Man & The Gun. Along with reprising Offred in The Handmaids Tale Season 3 this June, she can be seen later this year in The Kitchen and Shirley.

The Invisible Man doesnt have an assigned release date yet, but production will take place in Australia. While the DC Extended Universe is embarking down a different path than what was initially planned, one of its most popular heroes isnt going anywhere. The Batman is still chugging along, and while someone else will be taking over the Caped Crusader role from Ben Affleck, it remains one of the DCEUs most highly anticipated projects. However, delivering exceptional products takes time, and in The Batmans case, that could result in another filming delay.

Back in March, writer/director Matt Reeves, whos been attached to The Batman since early 2017, said that it looked like the movie would start rolling cameras around years end. Now Varietys Justin Kroll has heard that some script changes might result in that launch date being pushed back a bit. He wrote:

Its taken a while for The Batman script to come together, as Matt Reeves was still busy with War for the Planet of the Apes when he first boarded the project, and he also re-wrote it from scratch to allow for more creative freedom. The script is closer than ever to completion, but polishing up the story is part of the game, and moving back production by just a couple months isnt too big of a deal.

However, The Batman delaying production isnt set in stone just yet. If these script changes dont end up taking too much extra time, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez has heard that filming is set to begin on November 4 in London. So The Batman is still gearing up to finally begin principal photography, the question now is whether it will be unfold pre or post-Christmas 2019.

Of course, even if The Batman begins production within the next year, itll still be a long journey for the finished product to arrive. The movie isnt being released until summer 2021, and while there are a few DCEU movies before then to keep fans entertained, itll have been four years since Ben Afflecks Batman made his final appearance in Justice League. Still, it was a seven-year wait between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins, so this isnt as bad.

Ben Affleck Confirms He's Done Playing Batman

In any case, it sounds like were still in for a long wait regarding who will inherit the Batman mantle from Ben Affleck. All we know for certain is that a younger actor is being sought to put on the cape and cowl, and that Matt Reeves reportedly wants someone famous. Its also worth clarifying that even though this Batman will be younger, The Batman is not an origin story akin to Year One.

Beyond that, Matt Reeves revealed that The Batman will a noir-driven story that highlights the eponymous protagonists detective skills, which werent prominently featured in previous Batman movies. He also noted that many members of Batmans rogues gallery would appear, with The Penguin reportedly among them.
