The Best Scene In Avengers: Infinity War, According To Robert Downey Jr.

There is a lot to look forward to when Avengers: Infinity War unites the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe for the fight against Thanos. This film promises epic set pieces and fascinating interactions as heroes from across the MCU meet for the first time. There is so much being packed into the story to that it's hard to keep track of it all. But what will be the film's standout moment, a.k.a. the best scene? Thanos' arrival? Star-Lord and Tony Stark's banter? Cap's heroics or Spidey being Spidey? The massive battle in Wakanda? Well, for Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr., the answer is easy, and it's Thor's meeting with the Guardians of the Galaxy, as the actor explained:

My favorite shot in the movie has already been seen, and it's when Thor, who's just totally gnarled up, turns and goes, 'Who the hell are you guys?' and you cut to the Guardians [of the Galaxy]. I'm like sold. If the whole third movie was that scene, we're fine.

The scene Robert Downey Jr. is citing to the Toronto Sun is the stinger at the end of the first Infinity War trailer, and it teases a fun meeting between the MCU's more cosmic characters. I think most of us were sold long before that glimpse, but the meeting between Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy is one of Infinity War's most exciting prospects. I think we can assume that Thor and the Asgardian refugees just got a major beatdown from Thanos, and the God of Thunder is then rescued by the galaxy's most unlikely heroes. Just based on how Thor's interactions with humans and the Avengers in his early MCU outings were a blast, seeing him play off a new set of characters should be a situation ripe for comedy.

I once assumed that the Guardians would come into the fray in the third act of Infinity War, but it's looking like they will be present throughout much of the film, creating ample opportunity for fun meetings like this. Seeing all these space-based characters together is exciting, and I know I'm probably asking for too much, but a conversation between Korg and Drax is on my MCU bucket list. This movie will be an embarrassment of riches full of geek-out moments, and while I'm sure that the Thor and Guardians scene will be a standout, I'm confident it won't be my favorite scene. The Russo Brothers have teased that Infinity War will have a scene that tops the airport battle from Captain America: Civil War. Sight unseen, that is the early frontrunner for my favorite moment. Seeing the far-flung heroes of the MCU all unite in one battle, standing side by side against Thanos and his horde like a splash page from the comics, is the promise of this shared cinematic universe, fully realized.

8 Huge Questions We Have After Seeing Avengers: Infinity War

As the title indicates, this story is a consideration of things after seeing Avengers: Infinity War. If that isn't you, then these will be major SPOILERS. Do yourself a favor and come back after you've seen the movie.

Avengers: Infinity War was everything that we expected it to be and more. It was a movie on an epic scale that has shaken the Marvel Cinematic Universe to its core. As such, we have a lot of questions.

Odds are we'll be asking questions about Avengers: Infinity War until Avengers 4 comes out a year from now, but until then, here are the biggest questions that we have about the latest entry in the MCU.

Where Did Valkyrie Go?At the end of Thor: Ragnarok we see Thor, Hulk, Loki, Heimdall and Valkyrie along with the rest of the Asgardians on board a ship when, in that film's post-credits sequence, they are approached by another large spacecraft. In the opening moments of Avengers: Infinity War it is confirmed that the ship belongs to Thanos. All of the previously named characters appear in the scene, with one exception. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is nowhere to be found. We don't see her fighting but we also never see her body. Is she alive? We know that Thanos left half the Asgardians alive, but if she isn't dead, why didn't she fight?

Where's Hawkeye?There were a lot of questions about Hawkeye going into Avengers: Infinity War. As it turns out, those questions were quite warranted, as Clint Barton never appeared on screen in the movie. We're told in the movie that he, like Ant-Man Scott Lang, is under house arrest, but are we really to expect that Clint sat on the sidelines? We were told he'd retired in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that didn't stop him then, so why did it now? It's a safe bet that Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is still alive, as removing him off-screen seems unlikely, especially since every other member of the core team from The Avengers survived. What does the future have in store for our favorite archer?

What's Wrong with Hulk?The Incredible Hulk tries to do his thing at the beginning of the film and he goes toe-to-toe with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Surprisingly, however, he gets beat, and hard. After Thor: Ragnarok, when Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) was afraid he may never be able to change back the next time he became the Hulk, now he finds himself unable to change into the big green guy at all. Is the Hulk really just feeling a lack of confidence following his defeat or is there more going on as to why he refuses to emerge? The Avengers will almost certainly need the big guy in Avengers 4, so what will it take to get him back?

Why Did Strange Give Up The Time Stone?When trying to come with their plan to stop Thanos, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) specifically tells Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) that if it comes to a choice between saving the life of him, or Spider-Man (Tom Holland), or protecting the Time Stone, he won't hesitate to save the stone. However, when the time comes, Strange gives up the Time Stone to save Iron Man. This move is especially damning considering Thanos uses the Time Stone to obtain the final stone he needs, the Mind Stone, making it seem like the worst possible move. Surely Strange would understand the power he was giving to Thanos. Strange seems to think he had no choice, but why?

What Happened To [Name Of Off-Screen Character Here]?We lost a lot of characters at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. For the most part, the movie showed us who we lost and who survived. However, there are several important characters whose fate is unclear. We saw Shuri get blasted while trying to help Vision. It's not clear if she survived the blast and if she did, did she also survive "the snap?" Tony Stark is still here, but did his fiancee Pepper Potts also survive? Ant-Man and the Wasp will star in a movie that is set to take place prior to the events of Infinity War, will they still be around for Avengers 4?

Are the Infinity Stones Still A Threat?Ultimately, Thanos is successful in obtaining all the Infinity Stones and with a snap of his fingers, he does what he set out to do. However, the next time we see the Infinity Gauntlet after "the snap" it appears to have been pulverized. Since we're told by Eitri the dwarf that the gauntlet was the device that allowed Thanos to harness the power of the stones, if the gauntlet no longer functions, does that mean the stones can no longer be used against the Avengers? We've seen that trying to use the stones directly is nearly impossible for mortals. Does that mean that Thanos no longer has the ability to use the stones to defend himself? Is this the opening our heroes will need in Avengers 4?

Where Has Captain Marvel Been?The post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War tells us that Captain Marvel is likely to play a big role in Avengers 4 after we meet her in her self-titled prequel movie. But where has she been? If she's been available via pager this whole time, then she's not a prisoner someplace or sleeping in suspended animation. Quite a lot has happened, both on Earth and all over the galaxy that Captain Marvel could have helped with, so why didn't she? This question will certainly be answered during the Captain Marvel movie, so we'll have to wait until early next year to find out.

What The Hell Happens Now?This question covers a lot of ground, but it's probably the one question that we're all asking after walking out of the theater after having seen Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos has succeeded and has now, apparently, retired to a little lakeside cabin in the middle of who even knows where. How do the remaining heroes regroup? How do they even find Thanos, and once they do, is there even a way to beat him? This, of course, all comes after the mourning that everybody will be doing for all of their fallen friends. How do the remaining heroes even recover well enough to move on after all that's happened?

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, as well as Ernest Cline's original novel! Read ahead at your own risk!

Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One is an ode to anything and everything that geeks love from the 1980s, except for the work of Spielberg himself. The film intentionally steers clear of its own director's films, but that doesn't mean that Spielberg didn't consider using one specific reference. In fact, the director recently opened up in an interview and admitted that he almost considered paying homage to Ernest Cline's novel and his own work on Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade by having Wade Watts use a "Grail diary." Spielberg explained:

The only thing I was really close to putting in, because it's so prominent in Ernie's book, because it's where Wade keeps all of his notes, was something called the Grail diary. Which was a diary kept by Sean Connery in the third Indiana Jones movie, The Last Crusade. And so the thing I was closest to putting in was giving Wade's character the Grail diary.

So while there aren't many overt references to Steven Spielberg movies in Ready Player One, the Grail diary from the book almost played a massive role in the film. In the book, it's what Wade Watts uses to keep track of his information regarding James Halliday's Easter egg and plot his strategy to win the contest. In the context of Spielberg movies, the Grail diary is the book kept by Sean Connery's Henry Jones Sr. to keep track of all of his information on the Holy Grail. It likely would've been easy to include in the film, but Spielberg ultimately decided to keep it out of his adaptation, which has me wondering if that was a way of getting back at Ernest Cline for his digs at Indiana Jones in the book.

It definitely would make perfect sense for Steven Spielberg to include a nod to the Grail diary in Ready Player One, per the director's recent remarks to USA Today. The Indiana Jones version of the book is considerably important in the search for the Holy Grail, and Indiana Jones ventures to Berlin to prevent it from being incinerated. In fact, he even gets it autographed (unintentionally) by none other than Adolph Hitler.

We Need To Talk About Peter Quill's Mistake In Infinity War

Warning: this article contains one of the biggest spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War! If you read this, one of the film's biggest scenes WILL be spoiled, not to mention other minor spoilers. Consider yourself warned!

In Avengers: Infinity War, pretty much every major hero gets his or her time to shine. Thor shows up to save the day during the Battle of Wakanda, Steve Rogers and his team rescue Scarlet Witch from the Black Order, and Iron Man's plan to take down Thanos is surprisingly successful (at first). However, there's one specific hero who gets the short end of the stick in the movie: Peter Quill. The character makes an impulsive decision after the wrangling of Thanos on Titan, and it pretty much dooms half of existence; therefore, we really need to talk about the aftermath of his choice.

First, let's make sure everyone is up to speed. The moment comes towards the end of Avengers: Infinity War's second act when Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and a handful of Guardians manage to beat Thanos -- who, up to this point, has only obtained a few Infinity Stones -- on Titan. Victory seems assured for the group until Star-Lord notices that Gamora is missing. Suspecting the worst, his fears receive confirmation when Nebula explains that he left with Gamora and came back without her but with the Soul Stone, the implication being that he murdered her on Vormir to obtain the mysterious gem. In a rage, Quill attacks The Mad Titan and creates an opening for Thanos to get the Infinity Gauntlet back and finish his mission.

The Gamora moment was very impactful on the big screen, but the Quill moment that follows has led to some debate. Specifically, some fans have expressed annoyance that Star-Lord would do something so foolish and impulsive in a moment of crisis. It's not necessarily out of character for Peter Quill, as he similarly decided to open fire on Ego upon learning of his mother's murder in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but frustrated fans seem to think that Quill should've kept it together for a few more seconds to make sure that Thanos couldn't get the Infinity Gauntlet back in his possession. This obviously would have taken the film in a different direction, but it still needs to be pointed out.

On the other hand, another segment of the Avengers: Infinity War fanbase sees Peter Quill's attack on Thanos as a far more justifiable course of action. After all, the guy had just lost the love of his life shortly after she finally admitted her feelings for him. Moreover, many have called attention to the fact that Doctor Strange did nothing to stop Peter Quill from attacking Thanos, despite the fact that The Sorcerer Supreme likely had the power to do so. With that context in mind, there's also the conclusion that Quill's decision to punch Thanos was actually part of a much larger play by Stephen Strange, who would later tell Tony Stark that trading the Time Stone for Stark's life was the "only way" to achieve victory.

Regardless of your opinion on the matter, one thing is clear: Avengers 4 is going to need to do something to redeem Peter Quill for his impulsive mistake. Even if the move was part of a larger play by Doctor Strange, there's no way that Star-Lord knew that when he threw the first punch against Thanos. The character faded away from existence when Thanos snapped his fingers at the end of the movie, and he seemed relatively resigned to his fate. If we're to assume that Quill will return (we know at least some of those dead heroes have to come back, given their commitments to other movies) then he needs to acknowledge the impulsivity of his action in Avengers: Infinity War and make amends.

This acknowledgment could involve a notable moment of self-sacrifice, or (at the very least) a scene of self-reflection in which he apologizes for what he did. No matter what, it will be interesting to see how Quill (along with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes) acknowledge the fallout and grow from the devastating losses of the third Avengers film.
