Todd Fisher Really Wants Carrie's Leia To Appear In Star Wars Episode IX

There is no franchises quite as beloved as Star Wars, with the starring actors having an immortal place in pop culture. The late Carrie Fisher will always occupy a special place in moviegoers' hearts for her dynamic role as Leia Organa in the galaxy far, far away. While Leia got more time to shine in The Last Jedi, Fisher's untimely death in December of 2016 threw a wrench into the character's trajectory. J.J. Abrams' Episode IX was reportedly going to have a major focus on Leia, who have been the only surviving hero from the original trio. Lucasfilm hasn't given any indication of their plans for the character, but Carrie's brother Todd is hopeful she'll still appear in the upcoming sequel, saying:

Yoda came back in the last movie, so why not Carrie? In the first film, Obi-Wan says that if he dies, he'll come back stronger than ever. I feel like that's Carrie. She'll never disappear entirely.

While there are tons of opinions about how Star Wars should handle Carrie Fisher's passing, Todd seems to believe his sister, and therefore Leia, should have a role in Episode IX. While fans would love to see Leia on the silver screen, the question is: how could they do it?

Todd Fisher's comments to Variety also reveal that the family hasn't been informed of the franchise's decision for the character. Both Todd Fisher and Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd will no doubt be privy to the plans, so Fisher's bro is simply spitballing and hoping that his sister's iconic role has one more outing in the galaxy.

If J.J. Abrams wanted to have General Leia Organa on screen in Episode IX, there has luckily been some precedent. A younger version of Carrie Fisher was recently created through CGI in Rogue One, as was the late Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin. The Star Wars franchise is making history with its technical prowess, and the same technology could presumably be used to bring Carrie Fisiher's likeness back to the silver screen for a final bow.

Of course, this would also take a ton of money, and some fans might take umbrage with the concept. That, along with script revisions, have created quite a complicated situation for Lucasfilm and Disney to navigate through. But with Solo: A Star Wars Story having hit theaters, the pressure is on for J.J. Abrams to get to work and deliver a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy he began.

Luckily, there is well over a year until Episode IX arrives, so there is plenty of time to properly plan the highly anticipated sequel, as well as to decide how to handle the role of General Leia in the wake of Carrie Fisher's passing.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is celebrating over a decade of filmmaking, while also showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Throughout the MCU's long tenure in theaters, the studio has shown an impressive attention to detail, crafting a narrative that connects through years, franchises, and devastating twists.

Avengers: Infinity War brought the most horrifying plot twist yet, as Thanos succeeded and was able to wipe out half of the galaxy with the snap of a finger. The contents of the next Avengers movie a complete mystery, although Endgame recently revealed its title and first trailer-- confirming a popular theory that Doctor Strange had teased the title before the battle on Titan. Marvel studios Kevin Feige recently revealed when this plan was formulated, saying:

It was in place before we started developing the movie. Or just as we were developing it. So Doctor Strange says that line because we knew it was the title.

Once again, Marvel Studios shows how serialized storytelling is done. While the title of Avengers: Endgame was left ambiguous for a number of months after Infinity War arrived in theaters, Marvel Studios and The Russo Brothers knew exactly what they were doing. Endgame was explicitly uttered by Doctor Strange before the Avengers and Guardians teamed up against Thanos, allowing for smart fans to be privy to the title before it was announced.

And the fandom did pick it up, as Endgame became one of the most popular theories surrounding the film's title. Doctor Strange's dialogue was certainly part of that, but it turn out that the phrase "endgame" was used a handful of times throughout the last 10 years of Marvel movies. While it's unlikely that The Russo Brothers were doing a deep dive through the Marvel catalogue to find every instance of someone saying it, Endgame is definitely snappy, and helps keep anticipation high for the upcoming blockbuster.

Overall, Doctor Strange's actions in the conflict with Thanos still remain to be explained, as the Sorcerer Supreme knew more than he revealed to his Marvel allies. Before Thanos arrived on Titan for his epic action sequence, Doctor Strange uses the Time Stone to preview millions of ways the conflict with Thanos could end. Unfortunately, there is only one scenario where the good guys win-- although Benedict Cumberbatch's magical hero doesn't explain exactly what it would take for the big purple guy to fall.

Doctor Strange's actions got all the more mysterious after the battle on Titan turned south. Thanos managed to break out of Mantis' control, and ended up stabbing Iron Man through the chest during the conflict. In order to save Tony Stark, Strange hands over the Time Stone to Jos Brolin's villainous character, despite Tony's protestation. This choice was never explained, although fans believe it has something to do with Tony's role in Endgame.

Of course, the events of Avengers: Endgame are a complete mystery, as Marvel Studios has been keeping its cards close to the chest regarding the highly anticipated blockbuster. The Russo Brothers were tasked with completing the narrative of the MCU as we know it, and crafting another massive ensemble project in the wake of Thanos' snap. And the first trailer teased a whole new world.

Endgame's trailer and title were released just weeks ago, and Marvel fans were finally treated to the first glimpse of life after Infinity War. Thanos' snap, which has been named The Decimation, has changed the world as we knew it, wiping out half of all life on the galaxy. The devastation is palpable in the brief clips, which show the surviving Avengers attempting to rebuild and recover from the horrifying attack. But just how the Avengers intend on taking on the Mad Titan again is a total mystery.

It should be especially fascinating to see how Doctor Strange and the rest of the dusted heroes factor into Avengers: Endgame's story. Obviously they ceased to be, so it'll take a few very specific macguffins to bring characters like Strange, Spider-Man, and Black Panther back into the narrative. One popular theory is time travel, therefore allowing dusted characters to appear through scenes we'd already seen in the past.

Of course, Marvel fans assume that the dusted characters will be revived in one way or another during the course of Endgame. Most of the newer heroes were destroyed during The Decimation, despite their franchises just taking off. For instance, Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first blockbuster in the next phase of movies, so his impending resurrection seems inevitable. The same goes for Black Panther and Doctor Strange, who have only gotten one solo movie thus far.

While the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame finally arrived, it was purposefully ambiguous. There were no action sequences, but just brief glances at the characters who survived Thanos' snap of death. It looks like the upcoming blockbuster will pick up shortly after Thanos managed to get the Mind Stone, and snap his fingers to commit mass murder. Tony Stark is trapped in space with Nebula, while Captain America and Black Widow are still attempting to form up and take another battle to the Mad Titan.

There's also the possibility that the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame is purposefully trying to throw the fans off the trail of the true story. Kevin Feige recently revealed that the marketing material for the upcoming movie will reportedly come from its first 15 minutes, meaning that Marvel Studios will be keeping the vast majority of the film a total mystery. While this provides its own challenges regarding trailers and TV spots, the anticipation for Endgame is likely enough to fill seats and make box office gold.

Answers will come Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th 2019, hopefully including the master plan and details behind Doctor Strange's decision to hand the Time Stone to Thanos. With many of the OG Avengers coming to the end of their contract, smart money says the newer talent like Benedict Cumberbatch's character will become more important in Phase Four. The project was born out of a desire to make the animatronic versions of these popular characters be able to do the things in the parks that they do on the screen. With major action franchises like Marvel and Star Wars becoming bigger parts of Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the need for the characters inside these attractions to be able to do what we see in the movies was all the more important.

The result is essentially a robotic stunt double. In an attraction where you need Iron Man to communicate with the audience and then fly through the air, one animatronic can handle the first part in the way most of them work today, then the attraction can transition to the stuntronic for the more physical activity. Get an idea what we're talking about in the video below.

According to Tech Crunch, the stuntronics have on-board accelerometers and gyroscope arrays supported by laser range finding, which should allow them to hit their targets every time.

Audio-animatronics have come a long way over the decades. A quick look at something like the Captain Jack Sparrow animatronic you can find inside Pirates of the Caribbean, when seen alongside the older models, shows how much more realistic they have become. Adding the ability to be more active is the obvious next step. Having a fully mobile bipedal audio-animatronic is called the "holy grail" and while Walt Disney Imagineering isn't there yet, this is clearly a step in that direction.

We know that Disney Parks is already working on a major Marvel expansion that will be built at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim. Considering that we see some of the stuntronics floating through the air, as well as swinging on ropes, the idea of seeing these creations take on the role of Iron Man or Spider-Man seems obvious.

We're likely still years away from actually seeing these things in the park, but when we do, it's going to be impressive.

The newest entry in the Keanu Reeves action franchise John Wick is here and if the opening night numbers are any indication, John Wick is going to assassinate the entire domestic box office. The movie brought in just short of $6 million last night, setting it well on the way for what is likely to be a $40-$50 million opening weekend.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum brought in $5.9 million in Thursday night previews. That's more than double what John Wick: Chapter 2 did in 2017, as that film "only" brought in $2.2 million. That's an impressive number not only because it's a franchise best, but because, as an R-rated movie, the film has a more limited audiences than your normal PG-13 blockbuster. John Wick: Chapter 3 out did both of the last two James Bond movies in Thursday night numbers, which had a much wider reach due to the lower rating.

Deadline is projecting a $50 million opening weekend for John Wick 3 which is up from the $30-$40 million that was being projected only a couple of days ago. Either way, it looks like Parabellum will be the movie to finally defeat the Avengers. Endgame is projected to bring in $30 million this weekend, which will still be good for second place more than likely, but it looks like the Avengers reign at the top of the box office will end with three weekends.

If John Wick: Chapter 3 does win the weekend, it will set another record of sorts, as it will be the first time that Mr. Wick has held that position. Neither of the previous two films ever won a box office weekend, though both were still able to become quite successful.

The first John Wick movie finished its box office run with just over $40 million domestic and just under $90 million worldwide. John Wick Chapter 2 finished up at $92 million and $171 respectively. If Chapter 3 is able to keep its Thursday night pace going, it will very easily become the first of the franchise to break the $100 million mark domestically.

When combined with international numbers that would virtually guarantee that this franchise isn't going anywhere, and considering that pretty much everybody involved in the series is happy to just keep making these movies until the fans give up, that may be exactly what is going to happen.

The only other new releases for the weekend are the romantic drama The Sun is Also a Star and A Dog's Journey. The dog movie is looking at an opening in the mid-teens while Star will likely open in with less than $10 million. At the same time, both were much smaller movies all around and thus still have the potential to be successes in their own way.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum will likely have trouble keeping its own box office crown after this weekend. Disney's remake of Aladdin is set to debut next weekend, which will almost certainly put the House of Mouse back on top of the box office.
