Nicole Kidman Looks Totally Unrecognizable In New Movie Destroyer

Nicole Kidman kicked off 2018 with a big Golden Globe win as Best Actress for her role in Big Little Lies, amid the many accolades the series took home that night. As we enter the last months of the year, it doesn't look like Kidman is ready to come down from this high considering what roles she has in store for audiences. One of the Australian beauty's upcoming projects is the crime-drama Destroyer, out on Christmas Day. The official first look at Nicole Kidman's new role in Destroyer, has just been released, and it has the actress looking like a completely different person. Take a look.

In Destroyer, Nicole Kidman will play LAPD detective Erin Bell, who is troubled with what she experienced while she was placed undercover with a gang as a young cop. When the leader of the gang comes out of the shadows, Detective Bell must delve back into her past in order to contend with her past demons. Kidman's transformation teases a completely different role for the usually blonde-haired beauty. In this first look for Kidman in Destroyer, the role seems to have pushed the actress to tell an especially dark story. Kidman's character has her sporting a short, choppy cut, evident tiredness in her eyes and a look of bitterness in her expression.

Director Karyn Kusama explained to Vanity Fair that she wanted the character to look like a "real middle-aged woman" who doesn't hide her experiences from her face. Kusama also described the character as "sort of tragic" and "ultimately heroic". Kusama directed another female badass in 2005 with Aeon Flux, starring Charlize Theron. Kusama has primarily worked on television in recent years, but she did make a good impression on critics with her low-budget horror flick The Invitation in 2016, bringing her to direct this project. Her frequent collaborators Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay (who is also her husband) wrote the screenplay for Destroyer. The upcoming film also stars Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell, and Tatiana Maslany. The MCU's Winter Soldier, Stan posted on Instagram back in February of his own transformation for his role in Destroyer, where he sported shorter hair, beard and an arm tattoo.

With the tragic death of Paul Walker in November 2013, family, friends and fans were faced with saying a heartbreaking and abrupt goodbye to the 40-year-old actor. Additionally, the fate of the Fast & Furious franchise became uncertain, especially since Walker's character Brian O'Conner, had a key role in the series since 2001. With Furious 7 in the middle of production at the time of Walker's passing, the producers asked Walker's brothers, Caleb and Cody, if they would step in and contribute to a scene that would pay tribute to Walker and his role in the franchise. The actor was digitally superimposed over his brothers' performances, in a touching scene where Brian O'Conner retires from the fast life and drives off into the sunset. The brothers did recently admit that they haven't revisited the scene since watching Furious 7 at the premiere in April 2015. Caleb Walker explained:

It's kind of creepy sometimes when you're like, 'Oh, that's me.' It doesn't feel right. I think one day, when our kids are little older and we are able to share that experience with them and be like, 'Hey look, this is your uncle Paul. He was the greatest guy in the world and here we are being able to portray him and finish up this movie for him.' That's when I think it will really hit that I think it was really worth it and special and all that. But in the meantime, it's still a little conflicted.

The Walker brothers both have become first-time fathers within the last year. Preserving Paul Walker' memory for for the loving fans of the franchise, themselves, and for their children, continues to motivate their willingness to keep their brother alive onscreen-- even if the product is an understandably strange concept for them to wrap their heads around. The brothers have also been promoting I Am Paul Walker, a one-hour documentary. They both contributed heavily to the documentary about the actor's life which premiered on the Paramount Network last weekend.

In the interview with Associated Press, Caleb and Cody Walker also showed their openness to pay tribute to their brother again in a future Fast & Furious installment. Fast & the Furious 9 and 10 are reportedly in the works, so the brothers could return and give fans more closure for the character since Brian O'Conner is still alive and well in the fictitious world of the franchise. The said they envision the character making a brief appearance to "save the day", only of course if it was well thought out and done tastefully.

Although the Fast & Furious franchise will never be the same again after Paul Walker's passing almost five years ago, the action series continues to stay strong. Before it continues with Fast & the Furious 9, Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson will star in spin-off Hobbs & Shaw starring their characters, coming to theaters August 2, 2019.

Jon M. Chus Crazy Rich Asians made a ton of money. The romantic comedy has climbed past $238 million at the global box office, and it continues to pick up accolades on the awards-fest circuit. But do you know what movie might have made even more money? Crazy Rock Asians. This, apparently, is what Dwayne The Rock Johnson was thinking when he called Chu for a role in the film. As the director recalls while attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night:

The Rock did call me he was mad that I didnt call him for it. For real. For real. He was like, Were so proud, blah blah blah why didnt you call me for this?

Jon M. Chu was walking the red carpet outside of the SAG Awards, and was asked by Access about actors in the business who wanted to be in Crazy Rich Asians. Chu joked that so many people contacted him, and keep contacting him with the sequel in mind. Thats when Chu admitted that even The Rock called him up after the movie came out, and in the midst of congratulating him, asked, Yo, what about a part for me?!

This isnt a call out of the blue. The Rock and Jon M. Chu have history, as the director recruited the action star to help him beef up G.I. Joe: Retaliation. That gig helped Chu get on the radar of Now You See Me 2, and likely helped open the door for Crazy Rich Asians, and now its sequel, China Rich Girlfriend.

Still, one of the last things Dwayne Johnson needs at this moment is more work. This point is hammered home on the same red carpet by Crazy Rich Asians co-star and stand-up comic Ronny Chieng, who playfully threw in:

The Rock is in like every single movie. Hey Dwayne, take a seat for one movie. Can you do that for one movie? Every time I turn on the TV, youre in every freaking thing. Give us one thing. Can you give us our one thing? God dammit! Yo Rock, if youre not happy about it, come look for me, alright? You got my Twitter, you got my Instagram. Any time. Lets go rumble.

That escalated quickly! This went from a simple casting story to a WWE-level beef between actors! Ronny Chieng was quickly reminded by his cast mates what Dwayne Johnson looks like, and he basically backed down. He needs to keep that face looking bruise-free so he can be ready for the shooting of China Rich Girlfriend!

Unfortunately, Crazy Rich Asians didnt win any SAG awards. And it was snubbed by the Academy, so it wont contend at the Oscars. But it has been a wonderful run for the romantic comedy, and the cast is laughing all the way to the bank.

China Rich Girlfriend doesnt have a release date yet, but we will continue to bring you information on it as the sequel develops.
