The Rocketman Scene That Deeply Moves Taron Egerton When He Watches It

This May, the next chapter in a recent string of high profile musical films arrives in the form of Rocketman. The film stars Taron Egerton as Elton John in a fantasy musical that chronicles the life of the international superstar. Speaking about the film recently, Taron Egerton highlighted one scene in particular that really moves him to watch: the sequence at Dodger Stadium, as he explained:

We are phenomenally proud of it. It feels weird for me to say it, and narcissistic but it moves me when I watch it.

Taron Egerton was almost bashful when he spoke about the Dodger Stadium scene to AMC Theatres. He seemed like he really wanted to talk about the sequence because he was so proud and excited about it. But he also didnt want to be boastful or spoilery. Fully aware of how it might come off though, Egerton couldnt help but admit that the scene at Dodger Stadium genuinely moved him.

As has been glimpsed in the trailers, one of the scenes in Rocketman shows Taron Egertons Elton John playing Dodger Stadium. In 1975, Elton John played two sold-out shows on back to back nights in Dodger Stadium to over 100,000 fans combined. Elton John was the first musical act to perform in the stadium since The Beatles in 1966 and these massive and historic concerts were career defining for the man born Reginald Dwight.

Taron Egerton is actually doing all of the singing as Elton John himself in Rocketman, so that must have made him especially proud of his work in the film and in this huge scene. Given the magnitude of the concert being replicated, this enthusiasm and pride is exactly what you want to hear from Taron Egerton about the Dodger Stadium scene in the movie. We want to be sitting in the audience of a theater and be moved and blown away by the spectacle, the music and the performances on display.

Its impossible to hear Taron Egerton pump up the Dodger Stadium sequence in Rocketman and not draw comparisons to Bohemian Rhapsody and its Live Aid sequence. That film, which Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher came on to finish (although the final sequence was directed by Bryan Singer), built towards the climax of the 1985 Live Aid concert. That concert was the centerpiece of the film and even some of those that didnt like Bohemian Rhapsody overall still found a lot to love in the thrilling concert that closed the show.

Hearing how Taron Egerton feels about the Dodger Stadium sequence in Rocketman, its easy to get hyped to see what he and Dexter Fletcher have put together. And unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, which some criticized for glossing over certain elements of Freddie Mercury's life, Rocketman is said to not be holding anything back. Perhaps it will capture the brilliance of the Live Aid scene while adding a little more substance in other areas.

Is Aquaman's Classic Costume Coming To His Solo Movie?

It's no secret that the DCEU has taken some interesting creative liberties with Aquaman. The casting of Jason Momoa is very different from the blonde-haired portrayal often seen in the comics, and his armor that debuted in Justice League was far more muted in color than the traditional orange and green suit worn by the most classic versions of the character. However, it now seems that James Wan's Aquaman may veer closer to the source material than we had previously assumed, as possible leaked images of Aquaman toys have suggested that the character will don his iconic suit in the solo movie. Check out the picture, below!

New photos of Aquaman action figures have leaked online (via Twitter user MisterBatfleck), and they show three different toys expected to be released in conjunction with the Aquaman solo movie. Two of them are of Black Manta and Mera, and they line up with the images of those characters (who will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Amber Heard, respectively) that we have already seen. However, the one of Jason Momoa stands out because it shows the character in an outfit far more accurate to the comic book version of the hero. The orange and green highlights seem far more prominent than the more muted gold costume worn in Justice League, and it looks like possible confirmation that the solo movie will take Arthur in this direction.

There's definitely a strong case to be made that the suit should adopt the orange and green in the actual movie. Post-Justice League, the DCEU heroes have pretty much all moved closer to the look and feel of their respective comic book counterparts. Moreover, the overall reaction to the orange and green color-scheme on social media seems generally positive, with many fans praising the faithful look of the aquatic hero.

On the other hand, a toy does not inherently confirm that a movie will use that version of the outfit. It's not uncommon for tie-in products to take creative liberties with established characters, and that means the orange and green could merely be specific to the action figure, in an attempt to create a more vibrant product.

Luckily, we will likely get more information about the suit later this month when San Diego Comic-Con rolls around. The first official trailer for Aquaman is expected to drop during DC's big presentation of the film, and while there's no guarantee that the more accurate suit will make an appearance, it could show up as a way to honor the comic book legacy of the character.

11 Awesome Ways The Halloween Trailer References The Original Films

Blumhouse has been teasing fans about the first official trailer for David Gordon Green's Halloween for quite some time, and it did not disappoint. The Stronger director seems to have a very clear understanding of the franchise's tone and themes, and the preview has all of us on edge for the latest terrifying rampage of Michael Myers.

Of course, while the Halloween trailer has our blood pumping, and has officially made the wait for October 19 even more excruciating, it's also a clear love letter to John Carpenter's original Halloween as well. With that in mind, we have put together a list of deep cut references to the original that show up in this trailer -- which we can only assume means there will be plenty more in the actual film. On that note, let's get started with a clear nod to the late Annie Brackett.

Annie's AutopsyThe folks over at Blumhouse clearly did their homework when it came time to call back to the original Halloween and pick out details to include in this new film. One of the first elements that makes its way into the Halloween reboot trailer is the autopsy for Annie Bracket (portrayed by Nancy Loomis in the first film). Though it's not obviously Annie at first glance, the sketch of the dead girl notes marks on her neck where she was choked, as well as a slash wound where Michael finished her off when he ambushed her from the back of her car on the way to pick up her boyfriend, Paul.

Dr. Sam LoomisIn another clear bit of homage to the original Halloween, this trailer offers up a courtroom sketch showing us Dr. Sam Loomis (the late, great Donald Pleasance) testifying in court about how he shot Michael Myers six times ("I SHOT HIM IN THE HEART!") while saving Laurie Strode in the Doyle house. However, the trailer also goes one step further than that. Not only does this preview for David Gordon Green's Halloween include a shot of Sam Loomis as a means of honoring the hero of the first movie, but it also includes the same gunshot sound effects that ring out when Loomis fires at Michael in the first film.

Barking DogsWhat do Michael Myers and The Terminator have in common? Well, aside from the fact that they are both largely silent killing machines, it seems that dogs really do not like either of them. In one awesome shot in the Halloween trailer, we see the documentary crew approach Michael in the sanitarium yard, and one of the guard dogs becomes wary of the captive killer as soon as the aging and cracked mask is unveiled to him. Not only does this create a seriously tense moment, but it also suggests the idea that the evil inside of Michael returns the moment that he sets his eyes on the mask.

Laurie And Michael Aren't SiblingsOne of the most polarizing narrative elements to ever appear in the Halloween franchise was the idea that Michael Myers and Laurie were siblings, and that his need to murder her stemmed from an ancient Celtic ritual. That idea wasn't present in the original Halloween (it developed in Halloween II), but it defined many of the lesser sequels over the years. Now, with a blank slate ignoring all of the Halloween films except for the original, the folks at Blumhouse have opted to do away with the sibling storyline and use a specific moment in the trailer to tell the audience that Michael is just a murderer, and Laurie is just a random victim.

Laurie's ScarFrom the moment Jamie Lee Curtis appears onscreen as Laurie Strode in the Halloween trailer, it's clear that the former babysitter still has many scars from her night against The Shape back in 1978. These scars are mental and psychological, but they are also physical, as well. In fact, the clearest example of this comes when we get a look at Laurie's bare arm, and see a long scar running down her triceps. As fans of the first Halloween will note, this is from the moment after she found her dead friends in the Wallace house, and Michael stabbed her -- which, in turn, sent her flying over the railing to hit the stairs one floor down.

Escaped Inmates On The RoadRemember the scene from the original Halloween in which Michael Myers escapes from Smith's Grove Sanitarium and steals Dr. Sam Loomis' car? There's a very similar sequence in this movie in which the psychopathic killer escapes from a transport bus, which leads to a scene in which some innocent bystander stumbles upon a group of mental patients wandering aimlessly on the road. The way the scenes are shot are nearly identical, with the headlights illuminating the inmates as the car pulls up to witness the scene. Now we're just left to wonder how close Michael is to that scene, or if he has already started to head towards Haddonfield at that point.

The Rest Stop BathroomThis one is more of a reference to Halloween H20 (arguably an underrated entry in the Halloween canon) than the original film, but it's still worth noting. There's a scene in the Halloween reboot trailer in which The Shape gets his hands on his new mechanic jumpsuit, and then attacks a woman in a rest stop bathroom. We have seen various versions of this scene take place in the franchise over the years, but it most clearly resembles a very similar sequence in H20 in which Michael steals the car from a mother and her daughter in a nearly identical bathroom. That said, this version of the scene is way scarier, and things end much worse for the victim.

Michael Bumping Into Trick Or TreatersThe beauty of setting a movie like this on Halloween is that it allows Michael Myers to walk through the streets of Haddonfield, Illinois in a costume and nobody really notices. Just like in the original film, Michael wanders through the streets and bumps into kids, and the moment is punctuated by the terrifying, screeching sound effect that accompanied most of the deaths in the first film. We don't specifically know who these two kids are that Michael runs into in the movie, but the moment appears to be directly lifted from the scene when Michael bumps into Tommy Doyle's bullies in John Carpenter's film.

The Ghost CostumeOne thing that sets Michael apart from many other classic movie slashers is the fact that he's basically a kid in terms of his mental capacity. He has a knack for theatricality, which included donning a ghost costume to get close to Lynda (P.J. Soles) in the original movie. Now, it looks like the ghost outfit has returned in David Gordon Green's take on Halloween, and while we're not entirely sure how the outfit will factor into the story this time (either Michael is under there, or a victim is under there), it shows some great reverence to a legendary scene from the first movie.

The Needle WoundLaurie Strode is not the only character in this movie who will show the scars of the first film. In fact, while Michael spends most of this trailer out of view or covered by the mask, a quick shot from the preview tells us that David Gordon Green intends to honor the wounds that he sustained while attacking Laurie in 1978's Halloween. More specifically, we get a good look at the hole in the side of the neck of the mask, which was put there when Laurie stabbed Michael in the living room of the Doyle house when he tried to get her from behind the couch

John Carpenter's Original MusicThe last detail that we need to note is not one specific moment from the trailer, but an idea that permeates most of this preview. Every Halloween movie featuring Michael Myers (we don't talk about Halloween III: Season of the Witch anymore) includes a version of John Carpenter's original score, but pretty much all of them have found a way to remix it using different instruments or tones. That said, Blumhouse's Halloween appears to be going in the opposite direction by bringing Carpenter back to compose music that's nearly identical to the theme that played in the original when those now-iconic credits started to roll.

At the end of 2017's Alien: Covenant, after most of its crew had been killed, the Covenant continued its journey to Origae-6. One of the two survivors, Katherine Waterston's Janet Daniels, realized that the villainous David had tricked her just as she went into stasis. It's an exciting cliffhanger and set up for another Alien movie, which Katherine Waterston is down for, even if she is in the dark about the future of the franchise. She said:

I don't live in Hollywood, and I'm always usually the last person to know even what's going on in my own career. So, [I'm] probably not the best person to ask. But I did get some sense of where they thought they might like to take it when we were shooting Covenant, and it sounded really interesting. I would be absolutely game to do more if they wanted to have me. But that's all I know. I'm sure they've changed their minds anyway.

Katherine Waterston, who is no stranger to big franchises as one of the stars of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, would be on board to do another Alien film if that option presented itself. She also seems to have some inclination of what the idea was for the sequel to Alien: Covenant and was intrigued by it, but admits that she isn't tuned in to that and knows that things could have changed regarding such a project.

It's hard to know if Katherine Waterston's Daniels would have had much of a role in the Alien: Covenant sequel, given that film's ending and David essentially winning and neutralizing her. Also, Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw was the protagonist of Prometheus, but she was basically killed off-screen prior to the events of Covenant. So who knows if a similar fate would be in store for Daniels. Still, it would be cool to see her get a chance to give David what's coming to him.

Ridley Scott's Alien prequel series, for better or worse, has basically become about artificial intelligence and Michael Fassbender's David. We've heard different things about where the Alien: Covenant sequel, tentatively titled Alien: Awakening, was going to take the story, like seeing the Engineers return to take vengeance for David's genocide, but nothing's official and things could have changed.

Although Katherine Waterston admitted to The Playlist that she's the last person to know what's going on in her career and much less the Alien franchise, she's not alone. Alien: Covenant did not perform up to expectations financially and the future of the franchise, at least in its current iteration, is very much in question.

On top of that, the Disney-Fox deal is looming, and once it is complete, Disney will own the rights to the Alien franchise. It is a popular brand with name recognition, so you have to imagine the Mouse will want to take advantage of that eventually, but Disney may have entirely different ideas about what to do with Alien that may not continue the story Ridley Scott was telling.
