The Time Star Wars Security Had To Bribe Tourists To Delete Spoiler Photos

Creating creatures for Star Wars films is no easy feat. In the case of the sea creatures made famous in Star Wars: The Last Jedi thanks to their green milk, a puppeteer spent hours inside with only Coca Cola and diapers to appease him or her. However, stuffing a live human inside a puppet for hours wasnt the only bizarre thing the crew on Episode VIII had to deal with. The crew also had to deal with American tourists attempting to take spoiler photos of the creatures.

Special effects creative supervisor Neal Scanlan told a zany story at Star Wars Celebration, noting that when the crew was shooting sea cow scenes in Ireland, an American couple starting snapping images of the brand new Star Wars creature from a distance. He said:

There was a time when an American couple had taken a boat ride. They had no idea from the distance they were that [the sea cow] was being operated by puppeteers. So, they took all these photographs. And this huge thing went out with security. Security was like, Youve got to apprehend these people before they get to the shore.' The story goes that I think security did a deal for several free meals if they were allowed to delete photographs off of the cameras.

As you could imagine, security was obviously displeased and rushing around to rectify the situation. We know from past history that the sea cows were carefully created in Pinewood studios from foam latex and then flown by helicopter to Ireland, where the main sea cow and two smaller background sea cows were constructed. It was an ordeal and hassle to get them to the filming location and then to have to deal with factors outside their control I'd guess had to feel a little bit ridiculous.

From what Neal Scanlan revealed, the American tourists may not have really understood what they were filming, but had the images gotten out, they would have been spoilers nonetheless.

This isnt the first time a major movie or TV show has been spoiled by a seemingly random turn of events. We just heard a story like a week ago about how Game of Thrones did a bazillion things to make sure security was tight in Belfast and then a festival came to town that included a giant ferris wheel basically setting up a viewing platform for the set. Rough.

So, while it seems zany that American tourists could get close enough to film the sea cows on the set of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, weird stuff like this happens every single day.

Ultimately, all was well that ends well. I can remember seeing the creatures for the first time and being both wowed and disturbed by the sequence, particularly when Mark Hamills Luke Skywalker milked the darn creature and then drank its green bounty. The perfectly shocked look that Daisy Ridley quickly makes and then tries to disguise on her face is still etched in my mind. Its been over a year since the movie came out and it's still memorable.

(Reportedly, in real life, the green milk was not as disgusting as it looked.)

So, the shock value was certainly there with this particular creature, which Neal Scanlan also mentioned at Star Wars Celebration was a creation that came from Rian Johnsons mind.

Well have to wait and see whats in store for the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but if the first look at the new creatures is any indication, we should be in for treat. The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20, 2019. The first trailer for the new movie is out now.

Iron Man's Terrence Howard Has Some Blunt Thoughts About Returning To Play War Machine

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to an absolutely enormous place, with countless characters and superheroes occupying the space for serialized storytelling. But it all began with 2007's Iron Man, and those characters have the longest tenure in the universe; this includes Tony Stark, Happy Hogan, Nick Fury, and James Rhodes (aka War Machine). While Don Cheadle has been acclaimed for his long standing role as the Marvel hero, Empire's Terrence Howard actually played Rhodey for the first Iron Man movie, before being replaced. He was recently asked about returning to the MCU, and he didn't mince words about his feelings towards the shared universe, saying:

You know what's so funny? Even though I love Don Cheadle so much and I love what he's done, I still hear a lot of fans asking, 'Am I going to come back and be War Machine? Am I going to come back and be War Machine?' I think they could have a huge franchise off of it, but fuck em.

Well, that was pretty cut and dry. Terrence Howard has no interest in returning to the MCU was War Machine. Furthermore, he seems to have some mild disdain for the franchise as a whole, if his f-bombs are any indication.

This NSFW response comes from Terrence Howard's recent appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live. When host Andy Cohen welcomed viewer questions, one caller asked about the actor possibly returning to play War Machine in the MCU. His response couldn't have been more clear. Luckily, the shared universe still has a Rhodey to continue on when the character returns with Avengers 4, thanks to actor Don Cheadle.

Terrance Howard's departure from the MCU is one of the shared universe's first scandals, especially since it was so noticeable from even casual audiences. Howard actually spoke out about the firing in a few years ago (also on Watch What Happens Live) alleging Robert Downey Jr.'s demands for a pay raise came from Howard's salary, resulting in his firing.

Narratively, Avengers 4 has the potential to be a big movie for Terrence Howard's former Marvel hero. War Machine is one of the few characters to survive Thanos' finger snap of death in Infinity War, making him all the more valuable as the final heroes attempt to reverse the snap, and defeat Thanos once and for all. It's unclear how long Don Cheadle will remain in the MCU, as many of the shared universe's biggest stars are coming to the end of their contract with the upcoming Avengers flick. But if RDJ decides to leave the mantle of Iron Man behind, Rhodey seems like a great choice to take on the iconic armor.

Aquaman Director James Wan Shares Great Advice For Young Filmmakers

Aquaman director James Wan just seems like a cool guy, in addition to being a great filmmaker. He only recently finished working on the DC movie, which will be released next month. In the meantime, he took time to answer some questions from two young film fans, and gave advice to an aspiring director.

As you can see, James Wan shows some "fantastic" enthusiasm when the young girl mentions wanting to go into directing. Here's his advice to her:

It's so easy for you to just sort of make something and for it to be seen, right? Use your phone or get a little camera and just shoot something and put it together, I think that's the best way, you know? The more you shoot, the more you write your scripts, the more you edit you just get better and better. And so, like they say, practice makes you better.

Practice makes you better, as opposed to perfect. That's probably a good tip on its own. The start of the video is also fun, with James Wan talking about his huge toy collection, and saying he actually colored his hair again to look more like his own toy. He was asked about his favorite toy, and answered that he really likes his Batman The Dark Knight Returns comic figure riding the horse.

It's clear James Wan is a true comic book fan, which helps since he's adapting another DC Comics character with Aquaman. Wan and company spent two full years working on the film, and he was clearly exhausted (but proud) when it was finally complete.

Aquaman just showed off more of Arthur Curry's backstory in the final trailer. The film also had a big premiere in China. And somehow we only just found out that Julie Andrews will have a key voice role in the movie (while not appearing in the competing Disney film Mary Poppins Returns).

James Wan is still best known as a horror director, from Saw and Insidious to The Conjuring franchise, but he also branched out into mainstream blockbusters with Furious 7. He recently talked to ComicBook.com about mandating his own vision for Aquaman:

It was very important for me early on to be allowed to make my own film and to have my own voice be in there. After Furious 7 and Conjuring 2, I didn't want to be a director for hire. After Furious 7, that's kind of who I was to some degree, but after that, I don't want to be that guy again. So, it was very important for me to be able to bring my own stamp, my own visual aesthetic, create the characters.

After many years in the industry, 41-year-old James Wan has definitely moved past "director for hire." But maybe part of his advice to aspiring filmmakers would be to note that he did pay those dues himself.
