M. Night Shyamalan Promises Glass Wont Recap Split And Unbreakable For You

Director M. Night Shyamalan is often associated with his iconic plot twists, and his recent psychological thriller Split was no exception. The 2016 movie told a fascinating story about a character with dissociative identity disorder, although the film's final moments put the entire movie on its head. It turns out that Split and Shyamalan's 2000 classic Unbreakable were set in the same universe, and those two movies will collide in the upcoming crossover film Glass.

All eye are on what M. Night Shyamalan will do with Glass, as he puts a wholly unique spin on the popular superhero genre. But the director also has to make a new movie, knowing that not everyone in theaters will have seen and remembered the previous two. But it turns out that he's not going recap those projects, as he recently revealed:

I said to Disney and Universal, 'Pretend there's no previous movies and I came to you and I said that I want to make a movie about a hospital that treats people who believe they're superheroes and three of their patients escape.' 'I want to make you that movie, will you make that movie? Oh and by the way, it stars Bruce Willis, Sam Jackson, James McAvoy, and Sarah Paulson. Will you make that movie?' Yes, you'll make that movie... Person XYZ who hasn't seen the other two will come to see that.

Talk about a bold choice. Rather than featuring a prologue regarding the events of Split and Unbreakable, M. Night Shyamalan decided to craft Glass into a story that doesn't need to be bogged down by exposition. The story should cover the necessary information, while also allowing the new project to stand on its own two feet, sans recap.

M. Night Shyamalan's comments to Digital Spy may be surprising for moviegoers, especially considering how long ago Unbreakable arrived in theaters. That movie was at the height of Shymalan's fame, fresh off the wild success of The Sixth Sense. Considering the 18 year gap, it would make sense if those who saw Unbreakable didn't recall the nuances of David Dunn and Mr. Glass' relationship.

Split was far more recent, and the plot twist involving Bruce Willis' David Dunn brought a ton of extra folks to the theaters. M. Night Shyamalan basically created a cinematic universe with that brief scene, and moviegoers have been discussing Split's contents since hit theaters two years ago. As such, a recap is probably less necessary.

Still, seeing Split and Unbreakable before Glass arrives would probably be a smart plan. In addition to being reacquainted with David Dunn and Mr. Glass' complicated relationship in Unbreakable, a rewatch of Split will help moviegoers remember Kevin's various personalities, as well as how Casey survived her attack.

New Solo: A Star Wars Story Posters Show Off Thandie Newton, Jon Favreau, And More

It's a very exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. With Disney now in charge of the beloved property, there's a ton of new and exciting content being produced within the galaxy far, far away. While many fans are still reeling from Rian Johnson's subversive sequel The Last Jedi, the next installment in the franchise is a matter of weeks away. Solo: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters shortly, illuminating and expanding the past of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian. But there are also a bevy of new characters being introduced, and Solo's newest posters help to do just that. Starting with the adorable little alien voiced by Jon Favreau.

Here we get our best look at the furry guy, named Rio Durant. Rio made his debut in the very first footage for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and fans have been eager to accrue any new information about him. While he isn't listed as high as the rest of the starring cast, Rio has been teased to be an important and funny character in the upcoming standalone movie. Star Wars has always been known for its adorable creatures, from Ewoks to Porgs. And now Solo is going to introduce a new species that will no doubt sell oodles of merch along the way.

One of the most exciting cast members of Solo (and there are many) is Thandie Newton as Val. Unsurprisingly, not all that is known about Val's role in the mysterious conflict. Smart money says she joins the motley crew assembled by Han's mentor Tobias (Woody Harrelson), but we've only seen a few brief clips of the newcomer in action. Newton is currently having a major sci-fi moment, currently starring in HBO's critically acclaimed and ambitious series Westworld. She picked up an Emmy nomination for the show's first season, with Season 2 airing now. Cinephiles are going to be psyched to see Maeve kick some ass, albeit in a different universe.

It's not a Star Wars movie without a droid to fall in love with. While the current trilogy is being dominated by the likes of BB-8, standalone Star Wars movies have the luxury of introducing new droids that don't need to be carried through the franchise proper. Rogue One did a great job with Alan Tudyk's sassy K-2SO, and Solo is taking its shot at the tradition with L3-37. L3 is Lando's droid companion, which will no doubt put her in a variety of dangerous and colorful situations. It's currently unclear what her personality will be like, but she'll be voice by English director and actress Phoebe Mary Waller-Bridge and is known to be a mutt of different droid parts.

These new characters' fates will all be revealed when Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on May 25, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Looks Like Bond 25 Will Complete The Story From Casino Royale

Since Agent 007 first graced the silver screen in 1962, the suave and sophisticated British Secret Service agent has been portrayed by quite a few actors. From Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan, each James Bond has seamlessly continued the fun and perilous assignments in their own way. This generation's Bond, Daniel Craig, will soon make his last appearance with the tentatively titled Bond 25, with an exciting new director at its helm. Cary Fukunaga, who directed True Detective Season 1 and Netflix's recent mini-series Maniac, has taken over the project and looks to be placing careful focus on how to sew up the loose ends for Craig's Bond. Here's what he said:

In his first Bond movie, Casino Royale, [Daniel Craig] brought an incredible amount of vulnerability and humanity to the character, which was a big shift from Pierce Brosnan's run. In terms of what I can bring to change the character, Bond is on a character arc that started with Casino Royale, and I will be carrying that on. There will be changes, I am sure. As in any story, a character has to change in order [to have] a narrative.

It's true. Before Daniel Craig came into the picture, James Bond was more-so a cornball action hero with memorable tag-lines and dangerously over-the-top moves. Craig modernized the role with a more dramatic and brooding performance, so one would expect that his last outing would wrap up his character in a way not seen in the other Bond films.

In Cary Fukunaga's interview with Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Bond 25 director said the screenplay by Bond film regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade hasn't been finished yet, but sorting out the narrative is his priority right now. Fukunaga wants to make sure they have a good story to tell before moving to production, set to begin this March.

Bond 25 has had a rocky start, since original director Danny Boyle left the project due to creative differences back in August. Now with Cary Fukunaga and the original screenwriters onboard, who also penned the last six Bond films, it looks like Bond 25 is getting back on track and has some incredible potential. Per Fukunaga's comments, it looks like he understands Daniel Craig's take on the character and will certainly add in his unique directing style full of compassionate performances and gritty cinematic choices.

With Bond 25 still in early development, there's little we know about the details of the project as of now. Cary Fukunaga did shoot down rumors regarding if Christoph Waltz's Blofeld and Ben Whishaw's Q will return -- he didn't confirm or deny their return, but didn't say it's not possible for them to return to the franchise. You can look forward to seeing Daniel Craig return as 007 in Bond 25, set to release on Valentine's Day in 2020.
