Fantastic Beasts director David Yates already comes to the sequel with an army of characters introduced in the first movie that he has to develop, track and illustrate. Fans grew to love Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), and we are sitting on the edges of our collective chairs to find out what happens with Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) and Credence (Ezra Miller). But when CinemaBlend traveled to London last year to visit the set of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, there was a name that surfaced throughout the day that wasn't Albus Dumbledore, but seemed to be equally important: Kama. As much as we studied up on the history of Dumbledore and Grindelwald, this was a new name to us, so we put it to Yates, and was told:
Yes. Who is Kama? Uh.. Kama's a really -- Kama's a wizard who has a mission. And he needs to fulfill that mission within this story. And, he has a kind of tragic past, and a wonderful actor we've got playing him called William Nadylam. Brilliant.
But David Yates stopped there. No worries. The director has been around the block a few times, having directed numerous Harry Potter films, and he will only tell us what he wants us to know so that his movie's secrets are protected. Plus, we had time with The Crimes of Grindelwald producer David Heyman, and we posed the Kama question to him, as well. When asked who this new character will be in the grand scheme of Fantastic Beasts, Heyman told us:
Kama, a great character. He's someone who's come in search of answers. And he goes on -- uh, I can't tell you what those answers are, or what the questions are. But he is a person with a wound, an emotional wound that he is trying to find answers for.
Mysterious! Just when we think we have a pretty good handle on the direction of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, seeing as how it will reintroduce Dumbledore (Jude Law) and set the mighty wizard on a path of confrontation with Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), we get this new wrinkle with an original character named Kama, who is wounded, and is on a search for answers that will put him in the path of all of our beloved Fantastic Beasts characters.
The Fantastic Beasts adventure continues on November 16, with stops in Paris and London, once Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his crew get back underway. Are you looking forward to taking another trip through J.K. Rowling's wizarding world?
And on top of that, he wouldn't have come alone. "Howard the Duck was in one draft of the script," Anthony revealed. "Howard the Duck actually had a really good scene… we were going to cameo with Ken Jeong, with Howard the Duck. That was a much-beloved scene by us but it just didn't end up fitting at all."
