The original Men in Black trilogy lasted from 1997 to 2012, and rather than bring back Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones for a Men in Black 4 or churn out a weird crossover with 21 Jump Street, Sony is keeping the franchise going by taking the Jurassic World route and making a spinoff set in the same universe. Casting news for the next Men in Black movie began trickling in last February, and with nearly a month of principal photography complete, it's now been revealed that Mission: Impossible - Fallout star Rebecca Ferguson has been added to the cast.
Deadline reports that Rebeca Ferguson is joining the Men in Black spinoff as one of the female leads, although no character details were revealed. Ferguson joins a cast that consists of Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rafe Spall and Laurent & Larry Nicolas Bourgeois (a.k.a. Les Twins), as well as Emma Thompson reprising Agent O. At this point, it's anyone's guess if Ferguson is playing one of the black suited agents or one of the aliens that said agents keep the world safe from on a daily basis.
Rebecca Ferguson already has some experience in when it comes to playing characters working for top secret agencies, as she debuted in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation as Ilsa Faust, a role she recently reprised for Mission: Impossible - Fallout. It seems like she'll continue to be an important part of that spy franchise, but now she gets her dip her toes into the sci-fi realm. Along with the Men in Black spinoff, Ferguson has closed a deal to play main villain Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep, Stephen King's sequel to The Shining that follows Danny Torrance as an adult. The actress will also appear next year as Morgana in The Kid Who Would Be King. Ferguson's other credits include Florence Foster Jenkins, The Girl on the Train, The Snowman and The Greatest Showman.
Few plot details for the Men in Black spinoff have been revealed so far, but compared to Agent J and K's earlier exploits, this movie is said to be more global in scale, as it will reportedly involve a team of agents traveling the world to solve a murder mystery. The Fate of the Furious' F. Gary Gray is directing and Iron Man duo Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the script.
